Steve Hunt WINS the GOP nod and will now face Dave Marsden!!!
Final results:
Steve Hunt 51%
Marianne Horinko 25%
Will Nance 24%
The special election is Tues Jan 12, 2010....let's support Steve with donations and volunteers for this important race to beat Democrat Marsden, who "got a room" in the district so he could run for this seat.
good luck, out of my district..
Wondering if the RATS grabbed Marsden out of the pool of Leftist wannabe’s, rented him a room, and assigned him to that campaign.
Sort of like they assign their SEIU goons to various locations as needed around the country.
Democrat Marsden just barely won re-election for his house seat in November.
He lives outside the Senate district, so will “get a room” in the district to legally qualify to run.
Amazing that the Democrats cannot find a suitable candidate in liberal Fairfax...they had to import a carpet bagger.....
GOTCHA! Kind of like that RAT clown down in Florida staying at his Mother’s address.
This is worse than using your mom’s address. This is a grown man who has been married for 40 years renting a room.
Did his wife move to his new room with him or are they now “separated”?
“...This is a grown man who has been married for 40 years renting a room....”
A little sarcasm as I reflect on the amazing things a guy will do to put beans on the table in a down economy.
Looks like we got the Conservative preference here.
Per this note, VA taxpayers (married) can send Steve a check for $100 on Jan 1, 2010 and get a $50 CREDIT on VA taxes.....
VA political tax credit
***************************************
From the VA Taxation site:
Political Contribution Credit
You may qualify to claim this credit if you made contributions to political candidates in a primary, special, or general election for local or state office. The election must be held in the year in which the contribution is made.
The Virginia credit is equal to 50% of the political contributions made to candidates for state and local offices, not to exceed $25 for an individual taxpayer or $50 for taxpayers filing a joint return. The credit is non-refundable and unused credits cannot be carried forward to subsequent years.
Complete Schedule CR, Part XXIII, to claim this credit. If this is the only credit you are claiming, you may omit Schedule CR, and fill in the Political Contributions Credit oval on your income tax return
*****************************************************
This credit is easy for donors to get in odd years with state/local elections...but in even (federal) years, it is harder to come by. Usually takes a special state election or local municipal election to get the credit in an even year....
I heard all three of their stump speeches. All three were strong candidates. Steve Hunt, the winner, has been elected before to the school board so he'll have greater name identification. I hope the other two find something else to run for. Nance had been endorsed by Chuck Colson and Kay James and runs a highly sought-after nursing home. I know less about the woman other than she is a traditional Catholic with lots of nerve. We'll see. We'll have the 'energized gap' to our advantage in January.
Press Releases
Statement on Republican Nomination of Steve Hunt for State Senate in 37th District
RICHMOND- Virginia Governor-elect Bob McDonnell issued the following statement today regarding the nomination of Steve Hunt as the Republican candidate for the State Senate in the 37th District.
I congratulate Steve Hunt on winning our Partys nomination for State Senator for the 37th District. And I also applaud Marianne Horinko and Will Nance for campaigns well run. This November, Virginians gained a great Attorney General in Ken Cuccinelli. At the same time however, the citizens of the 37th District lost a highly effective representative on their behalf. With the nomination of Steve Hunt voters in the 37th District have the opportunity to continue to be represented by an individual of principle and integrity, who shares our commitment to creating the jobs we need, keeping taxes low, getting traffic moving again, and improving our public education system. I look forward to campaigning with Steve Hunt and ensuring that the citizens of the 37th District continue to send a dedicated and tireless Senator to Richmond to work for them.
