Excerpts: Obama would start Afghanistan withdrawals in 2011

Washington (CNN) -- President Obama will announce Tuesday he'll deploy 30,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan "at the fastest pace possible" with a goal of starting to withdraw forces from the country in July 2011.

"The 30,000 additional troops that I am announcing tonight will deploy in the first part of 2010 ... so that they can target the insurgency and secure key population centers," Obama will say, according to excerpts from his speech at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Obama will say that the additional U.S. forces "will allow us to accelerate handing over responsibility to Afghan forces, and allow us to begin the transfer of our forces out of Afghanistan in July of 2011," according to the excerpts released by the White House.

The president has a goal of withdrawing most U.S. forces by the end of his current term, senior administration officials told CNN Tuesday. Obama's first term ends in a little more than three years.

Obama is ordering the Pentagon to complete what the officials called the "surge" of U.S. forces by the summer of 2010. A transfer of security responsibility from American and NATO forces to Afghan forces is slated to begin roughly a year later.

Of course they are gonna wait it out. They know what kind of dumb ass is in the White House right now. Hmmm, 2011, just in time for the 2012 election. How nice. Even now he is thinking about his re-election, for this he had to wait months to get a damn decision, to think about his political career first instead of the lives of American soldiers. What a putz!

So once the 30,000 troops are there, set up and ready to go to work, they will have about 4 months to defeat the Taliban.

Oh yeah, this should work.

The Taliban is going to skip 2010 and stock up on their ammo and then launch a huge spring offensive in '11.

You mean he’s been sitting on this decision in order to place the commencement of withdrawals AFTER the 2010 election? I smell a rat ...

Obama thinks this will work to get him a second term. He could care less about anything else. This will only cement his defeat in 2012 (if he even runs).

Nobody seems to get it.

What this fraud is going to do is claim that Al Qaeda is the enemy, not the Taliban.

He will simultaneously claim a diplomatic and military solution by (1) negotiating a place in a coalition government for the Taliban which is why he wanted Karzai to appear to be a criminal and (2) claim Al Qaeda is defeated and that they were the purpose for going in in the first place.

He can then abandon the country to the Taliban and pretend to be a military and diplomatic success.

Fixed it!!! Much more accurate!
