As to a gay subplot in HB, AaL, not seen one with that being more than a minor subplot. As to animated Real World, I think you’re thinking of ‘Drawn Together’. If so, I tried it and did not like it: too obviously trying to breach any kind of moral boundary to bother with issues like character development, plot or wit. I’d go with ‘Tripping the Rift’ if I wanted to have both slightly transgressive material that had actual characters engaged in dealing with actual plot with at least a modicum of wit.
Of course, that would be ‘just me’. Can’t be more pointless a recommendation than that, eh?
I’d rather see them create new characters than go “raping my childhood” as they say on “Ain’t It Cool News”.
Same with how DC protected ‘their’ characters (acquired through mergers/buyouts) when Alan Moore wrote Watchman featuring the Charlton Comics characters (Blue Beetle, Question, etc...) and turned them into homocidal maniacs, rapists, etc. and let them die bloody and depressing deaths.
