Clemmons had written Huckabee a long letter saying he had been brought up in a “good Christian family” and he was sorry for what he had done when he was 17 and he’d never do it again, btw. It was on this basis that the sentence was commuted, but that still shouldn’t have automatically led to his release

Dangerous sociopaths like Clemmons know just what to say to manipulate fools like Huckabee. You can rest assured that honest atheists, Buddhists, and Mormons served out their full terms for lesser cimes under Huckabee's idiot regime.

Huckabee utterly lacks the discernment, wisdom, and firmness to hold an important executive position. He should NEVER be allowed anywhere near the presidency.

Yeah, there is that, but you know that wouldn’t happen anyway. Heck, we can’t even torture known terrorists.

So the outcome is the best we could have hoped for.

Are you sure the Dumpsters aren’t simply glad because they think this hurts a conservative?

I could be wrong. My bleeding heart, liberal sister is glad this animal was put down and she calls the shootings a Ft. Hood a jihad. I joke that there is hope for her after all.

True capital punishment. This SPD officer deserves a commendation of the highest order -- a true hero and good work to not get hurt himself. The perp had a pistol from one of the officers he murdered on Sunday AM.

Seems Clemmons received multiple assistance from "family members and friends" including a getaway car, money, and cell phones etc. All of these scum will be held accountable with, hopefully, felony convictions.

Glad this phase of capture and death is over and it saves the further trauma of the victims' families and many others in having to go through Clemmons legal appeals and death penalty process aka BS etc.

I checked the article. There weren’t many posts on it as of yet, but it didn’t seem like they were glad for that reason, even though there was a mention of Huckabee.

Most seemed pretty contemptuous of someone who would gun down four police officers. That surprised me some, too.

Usually, LEOs catch a whole lot of condemnation, even on FR. Some of it is deserved, like when they taze little kids or wheelchair bound old ladies. However, I don’t think anyone would have much sympathy for someone who would execute for people in cold blood, LEOs notwithstanding.

ACORN has one less field agent, one less census taker and SEIU has one less counter protester at the Tea Partys and Town Halls.

Check out my post from yesterday titled Raw Data, I looked into the background of the clemency petition.

Huckabee, on his own, signed a petition for clemency that was opposed by the original sentencing Judge and Prosecutor. No matter how he tries to sugar coat the issue the fact is without Huckabee intervening in this case, Clemmons would be sitting in a prison cell and at least 5 officers would be alive today.

Clemmons had the support of a few people including family members and bleeding heart clergy who lobbied the Gov’s office to grant clemency. Only after assurances from Huckabee that he would approve a petition did Clemmon put in for it.

Huckabee is on record at the time saying he was “concerned” a 17 year old was facing what amounted to a life sentence. Clemmons was a habitual criminal by the time he was 17 having committed numerous felonies, almost all of them a violent crime or a crime committed with a weapon.

Given Huckabee’s outrageous record on pardons and clemency (as many as 1100) it is obvious he does not believe society should be protected from criminals.

Huckabee is your basic “compassionate conservative.” I think anybody of any religion who had written to him saying he had had a change of heart would have gotten a commuted sentence. That’s the whole problem with “compassionate conservatives,” and one of the things that makes them so ineffective in government. Heck, Bush even trusted the Dems because they said they wanted to “work together.” Hah.

Although do remember that Bush as governor would not commute the death sentence of the woman who had killed in her youth but had become a Christian and lived an exemplary life in jail, helping others; I think he felt that he couldn’t commute her sentence to life because the media would have jumped on him because she was a Christian. So it can work both ways.

However, people on these threads are so obsessed with hating Huckabee that they neglect the fact that Clemmons was out not because of Huckabee, who did NOT release him but simply moved him to a different level where he was still subject to the criminal justice system. He was free because of a series of releases - some intentional and some through incompetence - and or even forgiveness of prior decisions (such as the judge in WA who turned around and granted him bail just a couple of months ago).

Why not turn some attention to Washington State, where the very people who released Clemmons are still in office or in the bureaucracy? Huckabee is gone from government, but the WA State system has had Clemmons there and causing problems for years now - and appears to have done nothing at all to control him, even when he was actually in their custody at various points.

BTW, anybody who thinks anything is going to happen to the relatives who protected him is deluded. I still bet that he had a family member in the court or criminal justice system in Arkansas years ago who helped him get out. And as far as his Washington State relatives, there will be a little media commotion and then all charges will be quietly dropped by some judge somewhere.

Unfortunately we have a group of people on FR who fully admit to hating all cops and rarely take their side in an issue. Not those who comment when a cop clearly steps over the line or commits a crime etc.

I’m sure there are those who celebrated hearing 4 cops were dead, I’m just glad I didn’t see or hear it. I’ll never understand the mindset - people who would be upset or disgusted that 4 people were targeted and murdered all of a sudden approve when it’s LEO’s who were killed.

“Great they got the blood-sucking murderous sphincter!”

CORRECTION:

“Great they got the blood-sucking black racist murderous sphincter!”

The officers he gunned down were white, and I’ll wager at the end of the day it will be discovered that this black racist pig converted to the Nation of Islam in prison and specifically targeted white police officers.

“Hard to image how a judge could give a child rapist bail at 15K and let him back on the street with that charge and his past record.”

Local radio reported judge set bail at $150,000 and the rapist posted 10% of that ($15,000) to get out.

Too bad so many victims had to die first before this piece of garbage ran into a bullet.

This guy was a total sociopathic monster that was unleashed on an unsuspecting public by idiot public officials up and down the food chain.

Huckabee will have to live with this now.

Just so I can have this on the record: I think Drudge has jumped the shark. The past 2 days all we have seen is pics of Tiger and now stories about the stupid White House Crashers.

This story is buried down the page.

Drudge is trying to become TMZ.com-esque and it's sad. But he'll never be TMZ becasue he is so slow to pick up on breaking stories. Just my .02.

Huckabee said on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor” “Monday night that Clemmons was allowed back on the street because prosecutors failed to file paperwork in time.

Pulaski County Prosecutor Larry Jegley, whose office opposed Clemmons’ parole in 2000 and 2004, said Huckabee’s comments were “red herrings.”

“My word to Mr. Huckabee is man up and own what you did,” Jegley said.”

That says it all.

Those people that were helping him are lucky he didn’t kill anyone else while on the run. Still, I hope they charge and convict them with the max possible sentence.
