Maurice Clemmons, man wanted for questioning, has long criminal history
Seattle Times ^ | November 29, 2009 | Seattle Times staff

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma man being sought for questioning in the killing of four Lakewood police officers this morning, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health.

Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protestations of prosecutors.

"This is the day I've been dreading for a long time," Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' Pulaski County said Sunday night when informed that Clemmons was being sought in connection to the killings.

Clemmons' criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed.

Clemmons had been in jail in Pierce County for the past several months on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child.

He was released from custody just six days ago, even though he was wanted on a fugitive warrant out of Arkansas and was staring at eight felony charges in all out of Washington state.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Betcha my entire 401K that he is?

So?....Any guesses on how many days, weeks, or months it will take the media to report on that important bit of information.

According to the Seattle Times article at top of this thread he was first sentenced to 48 yrs and then to 60 yrs while still facing up to 95 yrs in addition. Article doesn't say whether these sentences were to be served concurrently or long past any natural life span, but in any case it took the Huckster's soft-headed belief that 11 yrs served was quite enough for all those violent felonies to put this guy back on the streets. Apparently the Huckster did this quite a lot with violent criminals. It is beyond disingenuous for Huck's statement to blame merely failures of the criminal justice systems in AR and WA when the Huckster is the one who frequently intervened with unexplained commutations of sentences or pardons in cases of violent and dangerous criminals that Huck believed to be reformed.....

"When Clemmons received the 60-year sentence, he was already serving 48 years on five felony convictions and facing up to 95 more years on charges of robbery, theft of property and possessing a handgun on school property. Records from Clemmons' sentencing described him as 5-foot-7 and 108 pounds. The crimes were committed when he was 17. Clemmons served 11 years before being released."

Who let him out this last time, they say only a few days ago? What I’m trying to ask is how does Huckabee bear the brunt of this if this guy has been locked away numerous times since then?

Huck was apparently just the first o f many who let this guy back on the street time and time again.

FYI:
Police responded to the home at East Yesler Way and 32nd Avenue South where police stopped a woman who was leaving the home. She told them Maurice Clemmons was on the property and bleeding, according to a law enforcement source. The woman told police that someone had dropped Clemmons off at the home.

Sorry for the delay. Seattle PD believes it may have the suspect located in a house that’s just a few blocks from where the Halloween shooting was.

The link to the bail story is: http://www.nctimes.com/news/local/escondido/article_202f32b7-8380-5dfc-a895-1b663bc7c650.html

Thanks. Is it ESCONDIDO California? Maybe that accounts for the difference in bail bond. That state is in worse economic shape the WA.

(no place in AK is more than about 4 hours from Little Rock)

You can't get near Little Rock in four hours from AK. AK is the abbreviation for ALASKA. AR is Arkansas. LOL Signed; An old Arky transplanted to Alaska.

This guy was a good reason for extra legal assassination squads.

You are correct, they are all over the place mostly due to ineffective prosecution, lienent judges, lack of jail space and above all the concept of giving someone a second, third and fourth chance.

It shows what a poor judge of people Huck is. By underestimating Clemmons’ capacity for evil got these
four Lakewood officers killed.

Underestimating our adveraries in Iran, China, Russia,
or NK could get thousands more killed.
