Amount spent means nothing, as Romney has a large pool of funds...Romney got 4.5 million votes, Huckabee got 4.1 million votes, McCain 9.8 million votes...

The key is the primaries...in a "3-way race" with Romney, Huckabee and Palin, the more conservative vote could easily split between Huckabee and Palin, giving Romney an edge in the early delegate counts ...magritte

I’m hoping, though, that a 3-way race with Palin both Huckabee and Romney will get far fewer votes than they got against McCain.
