I received an email that the one dollar coins currently being produced do not have "In God we trust" on them.
Any truth to that?

No. It’s stamped on the edge of the coin. This new one has it printed on the obverse.

Yes and no. They made the judgment call that the text would be too small if they crowded everything on to one side to free up the back for the commemorative designs.
Since there are number of phrases legally required on coinage they moved one of them - "In God We Trust" - to the edge.
On a small number of coins the edge stamping is missing.
