I was not at all surprised to hear that Rudy Giuliani has lately expressed views that welcome the rising prominence of Sarah Palin in the GOP. Giuliani is the archetype of the politicians who wear the Republican label but staunchly support the pro-abortion agenda. Of course, he imitates the pro-abortion Democrats by using the "pro-choice" label to dress his position in deceptively American garb. The use of that term is one of the most clever rhetorical ploys in the history of American politics. If the slaveholders had thought of it, people like me might still be doing stoop labor for no wages. After all, what could be more American than choice? Isn't that what freedom is all about?

Actually, no; not in the sense of the political liberty the American people have up to now enjoyed. Our liberty is based on the idea of unalienable rights articulated to justify our nation's assertion of independence from Great Britain. "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

The United States is not the chosen people of God. In some ways, our Republic was born in compromise concerning the respect for human rights, and in many ways, we stagger, sometimes forward, sometimes backward, in our quest to better recognize and respect human rights.

This is how it is.

I don't love my country because it is perfect, or anything close to it. I love my country because it is my country, the land of my birth, the land that has given me what I have in terms of my practical life. My duty to it is to help it survive and thrive, and to become better. I don't have any illusions about the effects of Original Sin, either on individuals or societies as whole.

There aren't any personhood pro-life justices on the supreme court. Nary a one. Which is one of the reasons that the constant shifting of the burden for stopping abortion onto the courts, while ignoring the sworn duties of the officers within the other two co-equal branches, is nothing but a political shell game which guarantees the perpetuation of the abortion holocaust on into perpetuity, or actually, I should say, until the judgment of the One Who created us falls. Which could be any moment. We just don't know where the limitations of His patience lie.

Wow. You posted one even longer than mine. ;-)

I will try to get to it later, but if you have a summary of the legal argument that you've posted, it's more likely that I'll respond to it.

In the meanwhile, I don't see a here-to-there that is actually going to work without first a plain reversal of Roe, returning the issue to the states.

If you can sketch one out in 250 words or less, I'll get to it when I can.

In the meanwhile, I've taken more time at the keyboard than I'd planned, and must actually resume my non-virtual life for now.

It’s easy: The Constitution states as its ultimate purpose “to secure the Blessings of Liberty to Posterity.” It says that “no person shall be deprived of life” without a fair trial. Twice. It demands that the states provide for the equal protection of the laws.

Every officer of government, in all branches, and at every level, swears to uphold that Constitution.

Let’s hold them to it, and only elect those who understand and will keep the oath.

I see nothing in the Constitution which gives authority to the government to decide what is sin. I do not see any Fedrool authority in anything except equity and justice. Each state shall be responsible for it's citizens, and to make laws according to their conscience. There is no mandate for conformity. The Fedrool Gum't is responsible for delivering the mail and guarding our shores. The Fedrool courts are to decide only those disputes involved within it's bailywick, or between citizens of various states or foreign elements.

Sin is sin. Abortion is sin. Driving 56 in a 55 is sin. Stealing is sin. Buggery is sin. Anything not specifically within the Will Of God is sin. I hope you create your utopia, but I'll pass. I don't want to live under your brand of jackboots, thanks.

I came onto this thread because EV has misstated and misrepresented the views of Sarah Palin, falling in line with Keyes attempted polarization.. I beginning to understand why you don't like her now. Your misdirection is noted.

You can't handle a pretty woman with brains and a spine, can you? What really huts is that she attracts large crowds, instead of filling a few tables in an elementary school library. I guess you can try to continue to pedal your lies and innuendos, but Keyes will never be anything but a small man trying to look big. My daughters got a chihuahua like that. Pontification was Don Quixote's fine suit, but at least he had a lance!
