IPCC Researchers Admit Global Warming Fraud
New American ^ | MONDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2009 00:00 | REBECCA TERRELL AND ED HISERODT

Global warming alarmists are scrambling to save face after hackers stole hundreds of incriminating e-mails from a British university and published them on the Internet.

The messages were pirated from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (UEA) and reveal correspondence between British and American researchers engaged in fraudulent reporting of data to favor their own climate change agenda. UEA officials confirmed one of their servers was hacked, and several of the scientists involved admitted the authenticity of the messages, according to the New York Times. The article opined, "The evidence pointing to a growing human contribution to global warming is so widely accepted that the hacked material is unlikely to erode the overall argument."

Climatologist Patrick J. Michaels challenged that position. "This is not a smoking gun, this is a mushroom cloud." The e-mails implicate scores of researchers, most of whom are associated with the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an organization many skeptics believe was created exclusively to provide evidence of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).

Whether it be here on FR, or on the Musician’s website, or DU, or in your neighbor’s yard, or at work, or at school, no one reacts well to finding out their favorite statue has feet made of clay.

It should deal with many of the > questions people raise about using them to determine temperatures.

Take this from first principles.

A tree only grows on land. That excludes 70% of the earth covered by water.

A tree does no grow on ice. A tree does not grow in a desert.

A tree does not grow on grassland-savannahs.

A tree does not grow in alpine areas.

A tree does not grow in the tundra We are left with perhaps 15% of the planet upon which forests grow/grew. That does not make any studies from tree rings global, or even hemispheric.

The width and density of tree rings is dependent upon the following variables which cannot be reliably separated from each other.

sunlight - if the sun varies, the ring will vary. But not at night of course.
cloudiness - more clouds, less sun, less ring.

pests/disease - a caterpillar or locust plague will reduce photosynthesis
access to sunlight - competition within a forest can disadvantage or advantage some trees.
moisture/rainfall - a key variable. Trees do not prosper in a drought even if there's a heat wave.
snow packing in spring around the base of the trees retards growth
temperature - finally!

The tree ring is a composite of all these variables, not merely of temperature. Therefore on the 15% of the planet covered by trees, their rings do not and cannot accurately record temperature in isolation from the other environmental variables.

In my article on Greening Earth Society on the Hockey Stick, I point to other evidence which contradicts Mann's theory. The Idso's have produced more of that evidence, and a new article on Greening Earth has `unearthed' even more.

Mann's theory simply does not stack up. But that was not the key issue. Anyone can put up a dud theory from time to time. What is at issue is the uncritical zeal with which the industry siezed on the theory before its scientific value had been properly tested. In one go, they tossed aside dozens of studies which confirmed the existence of the MWE and LIA as global events, and all on the basis of tree rings - a proxy which has all the deficiencies I have stated above.

The worst thing I can say about any paper such as his is that it is `bad science'. Legal restraint prevents me going further. But in his case, only those restraints prevent me going *much* further.

Cheers

[[Obama insisted on chairing the last UN meeting, I wonder how much he was aware of this.]]

He IS and WAS fully aware of the scam, but WILL still be goign to copenhagen and decrying ‘man’s involvement in global warming’- an article just htis morning stated that ‘the world is watching the US to take the lead on global warming cuts’ DESPITE the FACT that this whole issue has just been exposed as a massive fraud- this administration, and hte powers the be aroudn the world do NOT care what the evidence shows, nor do they give a rats behind that it;’s just been exposed as a fraud, they are goign to plow this fraud through come hell or high water UNLESS the GOP gets off their compromising rearends and starts shouting fro mthe rooftops making hte world FULLY aware of how massive htis fraud is, and how the powers that be are trying to scam them, but so far, all we have are a few blogs and a few newsorganizations ‘reporting’ on the issue, and NOONE is listening- certainly noone at the UN- this is extortion- plain and simple, and they ARE goign to get away with it because the GOP is in the business of lettign the left steamroll all over htem!

Has anyone started looking through this data?

It is available at:

http://wikileaks.org/wiki/Climatic_Research_Unit_emails%2C_data%2C_models%2C_1996-2009

There is no argument. Pouring over this information, it is incontrovertibly clear that these people have been colluding.

This is NOT science. It is pure Leftist driven politics driven from the old criminal minded Stalinist mindset. Read through this stuff if you have the stomach for it.

They do everything they can to suppress or manipulate data that does not support their agenda.

This is a world of criminals.

Professional Scam Artists frothing at the mouth for grant money. This is not science. It is pure Junk Science.

There are a few in the mix who are skeptics and try to challenge and stick to pure science. They are targeted by the AGW Mafia and silenced.

This is crime on a global scale.

Who will write the first book putting all of this into analysis and laying out the case against them?

It certainly won’t be anyone from the MSM or MSP.

But whoever writes the book based on this will become a rich, famous celebrity overnight. And an international hero for “writing” the wrong of the AGW SCAM.

I think the biggest thing to emphasize over and over is how the leftists were going to make HUGE money off of this scam. Show some documented evidence of all the investments AlGore had lined up to multiply his fortune one hundredfold off this fraud. When they see their own sacred cows were really just cash cows for their dear idolized leaders, then maybe they will get more cynical about what their lefty leaders have been preaching to them all along, and then maybe their minds will open more to the conservative point of view.

The Blog RealClimate is busy trying to put out the Fire...

The CRU hack: Context

You have to get into the comments where Gavin Schmidt responds...

I'll highlight #17...and #34...as being of particular interest...in #17 he gives an answer to the questions that this thread is addressing:

CRU Emails “may” be open to interpretation, but commented code ...... tells the real story

#34 asks what Gavin knows about the FOIA action...he says nothing.

The guy over here, http://bishophill.squarespace.com/
is analyzing the code and needs help(one or two lines of code analysis will suffice).

He also links to this person: http://www.di2.nu/200911/23a.htm, who writes this:

...
“The first thing I note is that a lot of the stuff is written in Fortran (of different vintages), and much of the rest in IDL. When you look at the code you see that a lot of it is not doing complex calculations but rather is doing text processing. Neither fortran nor IDL are the tools I would use for text processing - perl, awk, sed (all traditional unix tools available on the platforms the code runs on as far as I can tell) are all better at this. Indeed awk is used in a few spots making one wonder why it is not used elsewhere. The use of fortran means you get weird (and potentially non-portable) things like this in loadmikeh.f90 “ (excerpt)

Yes it is a four string. I learned on the five and have three five string, two four and one six string bass. The one in the picture is the prettiest and the most fun to play. It is a copy of a $2,400 fender and the one used by The Bass Player in That thing You Do.

Here is where I got mine a couple of years ago for $139:
http://www.rondomusic.com/sjb62ct.html

Even musicians that know it was inexpensive still comment on the looks. I use that picture because it would be impossible to pick me out of a crowd with only that to go by, and it looks cool with the lights, etc. It was taken by my then guitar players wife with a cheap camera and her inability to hold the camera still created an awesome effect.

Global patriots who can get to Copenhagen should meet in front of the location of the summit, in unison blow up GIANT RED balloons, then let out the air in a GIANT FARTING sound.

Patriots with cameras should film. Press releases should invite ALL media to attend.

No one needs to say a word. The hot air, flatulent noise, and RED balloon will say it all.

I tried to get through to Rush’s show today for the first time, but apparently it’s like winning the lottery if you don’t get a busy signal.

I wanted to point out the trifecta of “inconvenient truths” the CAGW alarmists now face:

1) Lord Monckton recently released a PDF summarizing in layman’s language two important peer reviewed papers, which through straightforward, direct observations discredit the basis of the IPCC computer models used to promote fear of catastrophic warming.

2) The best satellite measurements of global temperature fail to show any significant warming for the last 11 years.

3) The leaked CRU files show clearly that its historical analysis of temperatures involves outright fraud, as well as many other scientifically wrong practices. I think many “on the fence” scientists will now rally to the skeptics cause.

What we must not let happen is for the 0 administration to foist any CO2 regulation on us before all this has a chance to explode in their face.

I see a bunch of people still in denial.

What did one of the idiots say? “Notice what’s NOT in the emails?”

Then when on to say, “they don’t say Global Warming is a hoax.”

I like how that person raised the bar for the email: In order for the email to be valid; it must contain the EVERY SINGLE talking point of a 17 year conspiracy theory.

Jerks.

according to the New York Times. The article opined, "The evidence pointing to a growing human contribution to global warming is so widely accepted that the hacked material is unlikely to erode the overall argument."

The media remain liars. Even the WSJ is going down the tubes, to the point where next year I might no longer turn in nearly-worthless frequent-flier miles on an airline I generally avoid anyway to extend my subscription.

If I have to find some other way to light off the woodstoves, so be it.
