We have a serious leadership crisis in congress and the White House. We haven't been developing many strong political leaders in either party. Most of the people in congress are careerists who really think of their House or Senate seat as a career or a business, not as an opportunity to lead America in the right direction. Most of them are mainly in it for themselves and they are more loyal to their party organization than to their constituents because their party organization can get them their next high-paying job if they lose an election. The people they supposedly represent, mere citizens, aren't going to hire them for that next job in their career. If you're a congressional democrat and you lose an election, your next job will be at a liberal think tank or a liberal university or as a lobbyist talking to your old friends in the democrat party. So these people rarely vote against party leadership now, even when their leadership is clearly leading the country in the wrong direction, as it is with this health care "reform" bill.

We need a 50% turnover in congress to clear out a large number of these careerist people who are just in it for themselves in the political business. We need to find wealthy people and retired ex-military people to run for congress, who are real leaders and aren't concerned about where they'll find their next job: business people like John Boehner, ex-military people like Dwight Eisenhower, and people from professional sports and entertainment like Jack Kemp, Bill Bradley, and Sonny Bono. I'm encouraged to hear about Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina entering the political arena, even if they're more liberal than we'd like to see. At least they're not likely to be these careerist people who vote straight along with their party leaders every time. The political process is not functioning well in Washington, and we need to develop new political leaders especially in the GOP. I'd really like to see John Elway run for senator from Colorado. We have great leaders in this country but they're not going into politics, probably because campaigning has become this very nasty battle of attack and counter-attack through TV ads.

This vote tonight is going to be extremely disappointing. It's deplorable that so many careerist politicians would vote for such a bad idea as a government takeover of health care. The whole thing stinks and many of the careerists who votes for it are going to get beat in their next election when the public finally learns all the details of what a mess the democrats are trying to make out of our health care system. All I can say is everybody take care of your health because you may have a long wait in the future to see a doctor.
