Today’s vote is important - if they could not have gotten 60 votes it would have killed the bill. However, they still have to get sixty votes again later in order to end debate and move to a final vote. If they can’t get sixty votes to end debate then this bill will be dead. The trick that democrats could pull would be to have Moderate Senators vote to proceed to debate tonight (which it looks like they will) and then in a week or two have them vote for cloture to end debate (which will also require 60 votes) and then have them vote against final passage (which only requires a majority vote). All that to say that there will still be another vote which requires 60 votes after tonight and that vote is the one that Lieberman is likely to vote with the Republican’s on.
You can count on them passing it.
