C-SPAN 2 is carrying the Senate floor debate live this afternoon.
The Democrats control the floor right now. Earlier, Republican Senators Judd Gregg, Kit Bond, Jeff Sessions and David Vitter gave good speeches and dialogues on the budget-busting effects of ObamaCare.
Maria Cantwell is speaking now. Mary Landrieu is excpected to speak shortly.
The cloture vote is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST tonight.
I wish somehow that could be outlawed. I admit that I wasn't as aware just how high our property taxes were here in Connecticut until we refinanced our mortgage, and now we pay twice a year (January-July), with the bill coming directly from the Town. (I was much younger then! LOL)
Imagine the wake-up call to millions of property owners who suddenly see that huge tax bill arriving from the Tax Collector. I think we'd see more GOP voters, and many more Republicans/conservatives active in their local governments.
We're screwed, IMO...

So it really makes no difference if Lieberman votes NO then. He's already screwed us.

Lieberman is a indepedent and does not get any funds from the DNC for his relection so he needs to keep his insurance PAC happy to get reelection funds.
Snowe is against any bill with a public option too.

Does anybody read or learn b4 spouting off these ridiculous comments? Reid is not going to use reconciliation - this was the price he had to pay to get Nelson and others on board. Many other RATS will not support reconciliation, including Carper of Delaware. If this was the price that Nelson forced Reid to pay to remove the nuclear option, it was worth it.
They certainly are. Concur - substantively and politically. This vote tonight will be a defining moment for the 2010 elections... every RAT will be the deciding vote for socialized medicine - even though it didn’t become law.
Well , if we don’t get every single person signed on FR to call the senate then we deserve the wrath that is coming down tonight. I have suggested full scale lawfull protest , aggressive protest . . I think we need to surround senate offices with thousands of citizens in protest.we need to flood the phones in protest , we need to have CROWDS of people in individual senators offices and hallways in LOUD protest day after day after day after day ,,RELENTLESS PROTEST

There should be 3 or 4 million people on the way to DC now to surround the senate and show that the majority of people HATE what they have become. Close down roads and bridges . USE the very sucessful tactics of the left right back at them .

There are a few things you need to know about tonight's vote and what it means.
— One, Obamacare (in the form of a cloture vote on Senate majority leader Harry Reid's bill) needs 60 votes tonight to be eligible for a final Senate-floor debate. Tonight's vote, in other words, is the last procedural roadblock for Democrats as they push to bring their health-care bill to its final legislative stage.
— Two, if Reid does get his 60 votes tonight, and the bill moves to the floor, it's a big win for Democrats — if but for a moment. The Senate would then go on Thanksgiving break and come back to start the final health-care debate on Monday, November 30th.
— Three, if the bill moves to the floor for a final debate, that debate could stretch on for a long time. Why? Reid will need 60 votes to end the final debate. However, Reid does not need 60 to pass the bill. He only needs 51 for that.
Think of it like this: tonight's vote to move the bill to the floor needs 60 to pass. Then, to end the debate on the bill once it's on the floor and move to a final vote, Reid needs 60 votes again. If he can clear these two hurdles, the bill will come to a final vote in the Senate, where it needs 51 votes to pass. Even if it passes in say early 2010, then the bill will then head to a conference committee between the House and the Senate, where issues will be hashed out even more before it has any chance of reaching President Obama's desk.
So, it's a long road ahead. Stay with us through the fight.

I’m from Canada, and I wish more people in America realized that this is a 1776 moment in American history. Once you get socialized medicine, you are a socialist country, period, end of story, full stop, because the government will use their control over your very life and health to jam through other socialist programs. And you can never, ever, ever roll socialized medicine back, just as with any other large entitlement backed by angry voters. SSI, anyone?
This is it, the end game. Talk all you want about 2010, renewing the Republican party with real conservatives, whatever you want. Once socialized medicine is in place, Thomas Jefferson as President with the Senate filled with the Founding Fathers couldn’t do a damned thing.
If they go nuclear in the Senate with this, the best we can ever hope for in the future is having some minor conservative influence over the new America of Socialist Republics, run by unions and government workers.
The only remote hope I see is secession, but these days with all the economic interconnections, that is probably impossible.
At least I got to enjoy 17 years of freedom from socialism before it caught up with me again. My thanks to the America that was.
