"Spawned" is a word generally employed to describe the sex life of fish and frogs. And, no, Glenn Beck didn't spawn the populist conservative movement. He simply had the good sense to recognize that it was there, and addressed it, unlike the good folks at Politico.
And let’s not forget Rick Santelli, whose frustrated rant first brought the modern tea party movement into being. Beck did a magnificent job in fleshing it out and giving voice to our frustrations - based on his caller’s “they surround us/we surround them” call. That caller, too, is my hero.
He has also brought attention to some serious books about the founders and their principles. Anyone who describes him as only a “rodeo clown” (his description) is missing the mark.
