Glenn Beck to announce ‘big plan’ for 2010
Politico ^ | 11/20/2009 | Kenneth P. Vogel

Posted on 11/20/2009 3:03:42 PM PST by ConjunctionJunction

Glenn Beck, the controversial Fox News television host, is planning on becoming more active in the populist conservative movement he spawned, according to sources familiar with his thinking.

At a rally Saturday at a massive retirement community in central Florida, Beck is planning to unveil what he has billed as a “big plan” for 2010, which is expected to involve the 9.12 Project, the group he started earlier this year and named for the day after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, when he says the nation was unified.

“Coming this January, my whole approach changes on this program,” he hinted cryptically on his Wednesday show. “This next year is going to be critical and I think it's going to change and I think we are going to set it right, at least set our course right. And if that means the Democrats or the Republicans are destroyed along the way, well, good. Good.”

Beck's Saturday rally, which is set for 3 p.m. will be broadcast live on Fox, and is timed to coincide with the kickoff of a tour promoting his new book, “Arguing with Idiots.”

After Beck unveiled his 9.12 Project, dozens if not hundreds of local 912 groups sprung up across the country and some have merged in purpose and tactics with the Tea Party movement of conservatives that exploded onto the scene this summer. Though the local 912 groups clearly look to Beck as their de-facto leader, they maintain no formal ties to Beck’s 9.12 Project.

The 9.12 Project is co-sponsoring a march on Washington on Sept. 11, 2010 partly to protest the policies of President Barack Obama and Congress. A source said the talk show host is not going to attend, but is planning to become more involved in 912 movement activities.

The 2010 march – called the “We the People Restore Our Constitution March, Rally and 9/11 Memorial” – is planned for Washington’s National Mall. Its other co-sponsor is an online activism group called ResistNet.com.

ResistNet’s Darla Dawald credited Beck with setting in motion the march, but said he’s not involved in its planning. “Glenn doesn’t want it to be about him – always about the people,” Dawald, who is leading march planning for ResistNet, wrote in an email. “He wanted the 9.12 Project people (grassroots) to be involved and step forward – not him.”

Christine Drawdy, a Florida event promoter involved in the Tea Party and 912 movements who is listed as the travel coordinator for the 2010 march, said the permit for the march is in the name of The 9.12 Project’s administrator, Yvonne Donnelly.

Though Drawdy stressed that Beck “is not the leader of” the 912 movement, she added “all he has to do is say something and they’ll jump.”

ResistNet’s Dawald said she was asked to join the march planning effort by Donnelly, who works with Beck on the 9.12 Project website but did not respond to an email message.

Beck has emerged as a potentially potent populist force in conservative politics, as evidenced by the response to his broadcast in March urging viewers to try to recreate a united America, calling out politicians for leading the nation astray, and unveiling the 9.12 Project.

Local 912 groups sprang up, and many credited Beck’s on-air promotions with the huge turnout at the Sept. 12, 2009 “Taxpayer March on Washington,” where some waved “Glenn Beck for President” and said Beck spurred them to become politically active for the first time.

But Beck’s 9.12 Project played no role in sponsoring or planning this year’s march, nor did he attend it. He has mostly not involved himself personally in any of the 912 movement activities, and has downplayed characterizations that he is leading the movement.

Nonetheless, Fox News has drawn fire from media ethicists and liberals alike for breathlessly promoting Tea Party marches, and for whipping up the crowd at the Sept. 12 rally.

The 912 Project website, which is maintained by Mercury Radio Arts, Beck’s production company but hosted by Fox News, lists the march among many other upcoming 912 events, and provides a link for subscribers to sign up.

The FoxNews.com logo adorns the lower right hand corner of the 912 Project homepage, which indicates it is “Brought to you by FOXNews.com” and links to the network’s website.

Publicists for Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts did not respond to questions about the announcement, or the roles of Beck, Fox or Mercury in The 9.12 Project or planning the march.

I think Glen looks fine too. He doesn't look like one of those hard muscle guys but he is OK the way he is. Doesn't the guy in the photo you posted look like Glen's body guard, the guy on the right as well. I hope he has body guards 24/7.

either one is a Conservative, or one isn't. Listen to Rush and Sarah, and be a Conservative.

Amen to that. Six years of a Republican-led Congress with George W Bush in the White House has led to a more expensive, powerful, and intrusive government - that's what moderate Republicans want to see in a Republican President and a Republican-led Congress and it's high time Conservatives dump the moderates. Voting for a liberal with an (R) next to their name is still voting for a liberal, even if their fellow liberals try to tell you it's somehow different than a liberal with a (D) next to their name.

"breathlessly promoting"? Doesn't that mean nobody could hear it?

If you cannot even get organized enough to take back the GOP from the RINO, it is utter instanity to think you can form a viable third party.

We didn't run away from the GOP, the GOP ran away from Conservatives.

If our numbers are so small, then you and the rest of the moderates/liberals in the GOP shouldn't be too worried if we decide to only support true Conservatives from now on.

See NotSoModerate’s response in #106. The GOP and the money behind it is not interested in steering back to the right.

Don't hand me this absurd crap.

You were one of the loudest shouters of this nonsense. You have been pushing this notion of “better a Conservative Democrat then a RINO” around here for years. Well today you are getting what you worked SO hard around to achieve

Today EVERY one of the “Conservative” Democrat Senators your worked so hard to elect with your non stop bitching about the GOP is voting to Nationalize the US Health Care system while every single RINO is voting against it.

So how about you stop spending ALL your time worrying about RINOS and start spending SOME of your time worrying about what the “Conservative” Democrats you worked so hard to elect are doing now.

That is correct ... dripping sarcasm .. we ALL know how the Republican’s will SAVE us all. They were just playing games “saving themselves effort” the 8 years they controlled everything .. would hate to do tooooooooo much to quick. Again dripping sarcasm.

I’m tying to figute out why people think the republicans of these past 2 decades will do ANYTHING. Their track record STINKS.

Checking and double checking my typos ever so carefully so the typo nazi doesn’t complain. Thoughts don’t matter .. only correctness does. It is why we are where we are.

Go take your meds, because in your rage you've managed to confuse me with another poster who has a similar handle to me. I have not been pushing this notion of "better a Conservative Democrat then a RINO" for years.

What I have been pushing is that a liberal Republican is still a liberal and voting for one is still voting for a liberal even if you pretend that you're supporting conservatives.

The difference this year is that I've finally realized that I have to live what I preach - I'm either a Conservative or not. No more of this supporting liberal Republicans and pretending to be a Conservative.

No more being a Conservative for every day of the year except when I go into the voting booth and pull the level for liberal and moderate Republicans.

I take it back, you may not have confused me with somebody else, but you have confused my message, which was that a liberal or moderate Republican is no better than a Democrat. I really don't think a conservative Democrat is any better than a RINO, but I can see how some might, which is probably why Palin mentioned conservative Democrats.

We recently had six years of moderate and liberal Republicans running the White House and Congress and we are in much worse shape than when they started. Bush and a Republican-led Congress not only given the Democrats the tools to turn us into a socialist nation, they've given Conservatives no reason to support the GOP in the future.

Don't be shy, step up. Take a bow.

You spent years telling us how rotten the GOP was. How "better a Conservative Democrat then a RINO".

Today in the US Senate we are seeing the fruits of all the years of effort you third party advocates have put in trash talking the GOP.

The solution is to take back your party by getting involved in your local party machinery not run away dreaming ignorant fantasies about a mythical pure 3rd party. The ONLY thing a 3rd party does is guarantee the election of Democrats. We saw that in the 1990s with the Reform party. Here is what always happens. You dogmatic purist form your 3rd party. Then an issue comes along that your party splits on. So being dogmatic purists, some of you split off and form a 4th party while the rest carry on. Then another issue comes up and some for of you split off to form a 5th party. And so on and so on and so on.

Read the history of the USA. The only thing 3rd party's have ever achieved is complete political irrelevance for the 3rd party advocates and a generation of political domination for their political foes

You spent years telling us how rotten the GOP was.

That I did. The difference is that I'm finally acting upon it. I kept convincing myself that no matter how bad the GOP got, I should keep on supporting it with my vote because it was better than the Democrats. It's only been in the past few years that I've stopped supporting the GOP with my money and time and now I've decided to stop supporting them with the last thing I've got - my vote.

How "better a Conservative Democrat then a RINO".

Nope.

Today in the US Senate we are seeing the fruits of all the years of effort you third party advocates have put in trash talking the GOP.

What you are seeing is the fruits of six years of moderate and liberal Republicans in the White House and Congress letting Conservatives down and opening the door for Obama, Pelosi, and the rest of their ilk to run wild.

If the GOP had not lost its way and lost the support of the people, Obama and the others would not have free reign to do whatever they want.

Maybe you should take your own advice read the history of the USA, because the Republican party started out as a 3rd party, behind the Whigs and Democrats.

As a matter of fact, the Republican party shows just what a third party can accomplish.

I'm pretty sure that in the 1840s and 1850s, there were Whigs pushing the same line that you are, that 3rd parties are irrelevant and will never be a political force. They were probably shocked when some upstart third party folks calling themselves Republicans relegated them to third party status.

Your sort are Democrat Campaign activists in everything but name.

You spend all your time bitching about the GOP for not being dogmatically pure enough for you and NONE of your time fighting the Left on anything.

How about you quit fragging your political allies for only being 90% pure and trying fighting those people 100% opposed to everything you claim to believe in for a change?
