Glenn Beck, the controversial Fox News television host, is planning on becoming more active in the populist conservative movement he spawned, according to sources familiar with his thinking.
At a rally Saturday at a massive retirement community in central Florida, Beck is planning to unveil what he has billed as a big plan for 2010, which is expected to involve the 9.12 Project, the group he started earlier this year and named for the day after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, when he says the nation was unified.
Coming this January, my whole approach changes on this program, he hinted cryptically on his Wednesday show. This next year is going to be critical and I think it's going to change and I think we are going to set it right, at least set our course right. And if that means the Democrats or the Republicans are destroyed along the way, well, good. Good.
Beck's Saturday rally, which is set for 3 p.m. will be broadcast live on Fox, and is timed to coincide with the kickoff of a tour promoting his new book, Arguing with Idiots.
After Beck unveiled his 9.12 Project, dozens if not hundreds of local 912 groups sprung up across the country and some have merged in purpose and tactics with the Tea Party movement of conservatives that exploded onto the scene this summer. Though the local 912 groups clearly look to Beck as their de-facto leader, they maintain no formal ties to Becks 9.12 Project.
The 9.12 Project is co-sponsoring a march on Washington on Sept. 11, 2010 partly to protest the policies of President Barack Obama and Congress. A source said the talk show host is not going to attend, but is planning to become more involved in 912 movement activities.
The 2010 march called the We the People Restore Our Constitution March, Rally and 9/11 Memorial is planned for Washingtons National Mall. Its other co-sponsor is an online activism group called ResistNet.com.
ResistNets Darla Dawald credited Beck with setting in motion the march, but said hes not involved in its planning. Glenn doesnt want it to be about him always about the people, Dawald, who is leading march planning for ResistNet, wrote in an email. He wanted the 9.12 Project people (grassroots) to be involved and step forward not him.
Christine Drawdy, a Florida event promoter involved in the Tea Party and 912 movements who is listed as the travel coordinator for the 2010 march, said the permit for the march is in the name of The 9.12 Projects administrator, Yvonne Donnelly.
Though Drawdy stressed that Beck is not the leader of the 912 movement, she added all he has to do is say something and theyll jump.
ResistNets Dawald said she was asked to join the march planning effort by Donnelly, who works with Beck on the 9.12 Project website but did not respond to an email message.
Beck has emerged as a potentially potent populist force in conservative politics, as evidenced by the response to his broadcast in March urging viewers to try to recreate a united America, calling out politicians for leading the nation astray, and unveiling the 9.12 Project.
Local 912 groups sprang up, and many credited Becks on-air promotions with the huge turnout at the Sept. 12, 2009 Taxpayer March on Washington, where some waved Glenn Beck for President and said Beck spurred them to become politically active for the first time.
But Becks 9.12 Project played no role in sponsoring or planning this years march, nor did he attend it. He has mostly not involved himself personally in any of the 912 movement activities, and has downplayed characterizations that he is leading the movement.
Nonetheless, Fox News has drawn fire from media ethicists and liberals alike for breathlessly promoting Tea Party marches, and for whipping up the crowd at the Sept. 12 rally.
The 912 Project website, which is maintained by Mercury Radio Arts, Becks production company but hosted by Fox News, lists the march among many other upcoming 912 events, and provides a link for subscribers to sign up.
The FoxNews.com logo adorns the lower right hand corner of the 912 Project homepage, which indicates it is Brought to you by FOXNews.com and links to the networks website.
Publicists for Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts did not respond to questions about the announcement, or the roles of Beck, Fox or Mercury in The 9.12 Project or planning the march.
Looks like Politico took that part out. It was there when I originally posted the article here, because all I did was cut & paste. Hmmmm...
I gave that book to my late dad to read in abt. 1980. He had the same reaction I did ... we read hundreds of pages at a time, and were very surprised to find the world was still there when we looked up from the pages. Mark of a truly great book.
See post #91 that quote is direct from the politico article, I clicked the link like you did and found that paragraph and it looks to me like someone may have inserted the “live on fox at 3pm” line when it was posted here on FR. I saw your youtube link as well and you’re right, BECK does not say it will be broadcast live today.......
No, I think Politico took that part out. Seriously, all I did was cut & paste the article from Politico. I didn’t add anything.
I heard him say to join him at the Villages, but never heard him say anything about a FNC show on Saturday...Politico isn’t terribly credible.
Yeah I did that, and you know what I got? Used. My talent and skill was used to help elect people that were being paid off by special interests.
I guess I should try harder right? Yeah, thought about that too. But realized really quick only one thing matters in both parties: money. If I don't bring tens of thousands of dollars to the table then I don't matter.
So I now use my skill to expose corrupt politicians. I'll spend my time and effort helping a third party. But I will never get involved with the GOP or the Dems. I'm allergic to crack houses filled with rats that act like politicians.
(Sigh) It's just so hard to be a responsible journalist these days, ain't it? I mean, it's ever-so-difficult to have to dig through all the miasma to get the story straight, hours and hours of dedicated investigative research. [/s] Good grief.
Shaking head, they just don’t make ‘em like they used to, journalists are just bleepin’ lazy, can’t be bothered to actually investigate, just throw anything out there and see what sticks..........we are soooooooooooooooooooooooo screwed.
LOL! Yea, well no big deal now, guess Beck will show some highlights of it on his show next week, maybe someone who was there will put it on youtube this weekend. Well guess I’ll go do some shopping and rake some leaves......
C’Mon. Why o why do the insults have to start? I guess I’m a political fool. But my foolishness is rooted in the belief that we are free people. That if we choose to form a third party we can.
And having a dream like that isn’t bad. What is bad are people that say “you can’t do that”, “you’re a fool for thinking that” etc. So belittle me. That’s fine.
But I won’t be belittled into supporting the scum in the GOP.
my opinion - a 3rd party is just what obama et al want.
We need to take back/reform our party.
No 3rd Party!!
There are some days I think the only reason these people still breathe is that it is an involuntary action!
Yep and you guys spent 2006 and 2008 telling us "better a Conservative Democrat then a RINO"
And today EVERY one of your "Conservative" Democrat Senators you all worked so hard to elect in 2006 and 2008 is voting to Nationalize the US Health Care system while every single RINO is voting against it.
So how about you all stop spending ALL your time worrying about RINOS and start spending SOME of your time worrying about what the "Conservative" Democrats you worked so hard to elect in 2006 and 2008 are doing now?
Politico stated in the article that BECK would be on live at 3pm, we took them at their word.........life goes on.......
These days I constantly walk around with duct tape wrapped around my head so it won’t explode! I desperately need to find a way to stop the blood from shooting from my eyes!
As Rush has said many times, a 3rd party is a guarantee for losers. Reform the GOP - see what's happening in FL (RINO Crist) and even AZ (RINO mccain) - both RINOS are in BIG trouble.
He described the time after surgery, he's sitting in the hospital bed watching the news and getting frustrated, because he is unable to respond, can't get to the mic -- he said he got a good understanding of how we are/have been feeling out here, no outlet. Glenn has been saying that he has "a plan for action", he intended to describe it, lay it out after the holidays, when he came back live in January, but that experience post-op recovery, the level of frustration and the feeling that we are simply running out of time, he moved up his timetable and decided to put the gears in motion, let us know NOW.
As he's telling this, radio show, he says over and over, he is going to begin today (Saturday) at his appearance at The Villages, he will then let the rest of the country in on things on Monday, both radio and TV. He can probably do more detail on radio, time, but TV allows the helpful visual aids, chalkboard, magnetic photos, etc. So I would tend to think it might be helpful if one is able to tune it to both, at least FReepers should keep others updated on the various Glenn-threads.
I had to laugh, Glenn teasing on how he'd lost a whole six ounces after surgery! And here I'd told you that post-op is the best diet plan, I once lost twenty pounds in less than a week, broth and jello. But then Glenn lets in on the dirty secret, apparently his FOX colleagues sent a bunch of nummy stuff while he was recuperating, oops!
But still, this guy is not some ginormous bloat, I think he looks fine. Look at this photo, profile, okay, he's got the chin -- psst, so have I. You look good here, Glenn, enjoy those M&M's, and hey, gravy-day coming Thursday!! :D
