However, I will say this: both their theft and, I believe, any reproduction of the emails that were obtained on public websites, etc, constitutes serious criminal activity. If these turn out to be accurate, I wonder if there is a qui tam claim (Federal False Claims Act) here, at least with regard to U.S. based researchers. Presumably they or the institutions which employ them took Federal grant money.

Lawyers, any thoughts?
