Union Bullies Boy Scout for Dastardly Good Deed 17-year-old's 250 of community service angers Allentown union By TERESA MASTERSON Updated 12:30 PM EST, Tue, Nov 17, 2009
A 17-year-old Boy Scout worked more than 200 hours to clear a path in his local park so that people could enjoy walking and biking along the river.
Bad move Boy Scout. Now grown men who didnt get around to doing it for a paycheck are after you.
Kevin Anderson, a junior at Southern Lehigh High School, a varsity soccer player and a Boy Scout hoping to get his Eagle Scout badge, spent 250 hours over several weeks creating a path on the partially complete 165-mile Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor that runs through Kimmets Lock Park in Allentown, reports The Morning Call.
"I decided to do my part in completing this part of the trail. In that way, others could enjoy walking along the river, without having to walk on the busy road," Anderson said in an e-mail, says The Morning Call.
But once the citys municipal union caught wind of this do-gooder breath of fresh air, it put up a stink at Tuesdays city council meeting. Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Unions said its considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing such good, free-of-charge, work to happen.
"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council, reports The Morning Call.

Now imagine that kind of union thuggery permiating every aspect of life on a national scale, with the full power of the state behind the thugs. That was life in the Soviet Union. That is what we face.
“That’s a nice (Eagle Scout) badge ya got theres. Be a shame if anything were to happen to it.”
There is a comment on the nbc link which states that the area the Boy Scout cleaned up is National Park land. I’m not absolutely sure that’s correct but if it is, maybe the Scout could file charges with the FBI for terroristic threats on federal property? (Hit SEIU with the biggest cannons available.)
Here’s the website: http://www.delawareandlehigh.org/index.php/delaware-and-lehigh/about-us/
Now that just sounds way to ominous!
I've no idea if they were union but this was a private university in Boston, can't imagine they were not union.
first I worked in supply: constant stealing going on - constant. The carpenters, electricians etc. would show up at the supply section with a list of stuff they needed. If any of the regular B&G people who worked in supply were not there these people would come in and take whatever they wanted: tools, wiring - you name it. We were told to keep an eye on these people but a fat load of good that did.
A few things I recall: A flat bed truck filled with B&G workers showing up at a massive 5 story building the university owned and the men just sitting there. I asked what we were supposed to be doing and was told
“ Don't worry about it “.
20 “ workers “ just sitting there in the truck for well over an hour. At one point I had to go to class and when I left they were still there.
Endless problems with these people in a privately owned bar on campus. They'd sit there getting drunk as long as they could. Someone would be sent running to the bar to let them know when a higher up from B&G was headed over to catch them in the act. They'd stumble out the back door and the bar owner would cover for them.
A few of the projects I worked on and completed ( by myself ) were simple clean-up jobs that badly needed to be done. I got into trouble for this as some B&G workers complained I was doing work they could do with overtime. One of the kids also on the B&G work study program was the son of a foreman. He pissed and moaned how I was taking hours from him.
As this point I was sent over to the sign painting department. The guy in charge would send me on jobs all over the campus and no matter how fast I worked on jobs he'd complain and make comments. But at this point I had already used up all the money allocated for me in the program so I was out of a job before they could toss me.
I worked rings around these clowns - was always taught to work hard. In the end such a work ethic was not appreciated in the least.
Below is a link to the 2008 report from the Delaware & Leigh Nat’l Heritage Corridor, Inc, the group for which the Boy Scout did the work. Note page 5—not only is the City of Bethlehem thanked for its donated services but another Boy Scout who built park benches is also thanked by name. Hope SEIU doesn’t go after him as well!

Thanks for the Great Picture.

Employers aren’t stupid, for the most part. They know they need to do certain things to keep their workforce. I really don’t like working for large corporations though. They try to exact too much power over their employees.
For the most part, I’ve never had a problem with being unfairly treated except for once. The department I worked for tried to FORCE me to go on a United Way tour with them (the corporate big-wigs wanted 100% employee participation). I refused on principle. I had previously withdrawn or ended my payroll deducted donation to UW over the Boy Scouts/homosexual scout leaders issue. My money. My choice. The issue was resolved (I didn’t have to quit over it) shortly thereafter. I was laid off. Lucky for me...since this was also right after the Enron scandal and 9/11. The company’s 401k dropped like a rock shortly AFTER I managed to get my money out. Sometimes things do work out for the best.
And yes, loyalty works both ways. Like you said, if a company is good to you, you should be good to them and vice versa. If not, you can always walk (always, except for in a climate like today, caused by the leftist idiots in charge of ruining the country).
Somebody should be looking into the SEIU. Would have to be one of the States, since the Feds won’t do it.
Thats a nice (Eagle Scout) badge ya got theres. Be a shame if anything were to happen to it.
In which case I’d like to see the scout firmly implant his badge into the SEIU thug’s forehead! “Oh, sorry, Mr. Gambini. I was just trying to toss it on the table PAST your head. Better put some ice on that, sir.”
To me it comes off as an ‘I don’t know the difference between Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and don’t care to’ attitude. That the guy doesn’t know the difference just reinforces the stereotype that he is a goon who wasn’t brought up with wholesome values or in the type of home where he would have found out about Scouting. The jerk probably doesn’t realize that he basically said was that it made no difference to him if the boy was in High School or still young enough to be in Elementary school, he would still try to intimidate him. What a jackass.
WHAT is going on in this world??? I’m sure G-d is up there shaking His head.
You do that, douchebag.(Not you, silverleaf;the “Tough guy”).
I can just see Tony Soprano now, perhaps running the guy over w/his gas-guzzling SUV!
Where’d he learn that?
Maybe this Balzano creep could end up like Jimmy Hoffa!
I’ve noticed that the most arrogant union thuggery occurs in areas where open carry is scrutinized(read illegal).
They are somewhat reluctant to try their militant crap in open carry states.
When goons notice a .45 cal. on someones hip that means business, they slither off into their alley.
Those purple shirts will make excellent targets when America’s second civil war finally erupts across the fruited plain.....
