...In the past I have grown angry with Chris Matthews, who is a practicing Catholic, because he has failed to defend the fundamental human right to life. However, in this discussion he took the position that the Stupak amendment - named after the faithful Catholic Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak who co-authored the amendment in the House - would end up causing the defeat of the legislation because there would be no compromise possible over the issue of funding abortion.
Interestingly, he compared the current situation to the period just preceding the Civil War in the United States. He drew the analogy based on the unwillingness of the two sides back then to compromise and the unwillingness of the two sides today to compromise.
The analogy goes much deeper. Legal abortion on demand at any time for any reason has denied an entire group of human persons, children in the womb, their fundamental right to life and freedom much like legal like slavery did to Americans of African ancestry in another age. This is the real analogy.
Legal abortion is a new form of slavery. It empowers one group of human persons to treat another group of human persons as property by denying them their fundamental human rights. Both slavery and abortion are rightly called in Catholic teaching intrinsically evil. They are a violation of the Natural Law written on every human heart. They must never be protected by the positive law as the subject of a human choice in any truly just society. Unfortunately, Chris Matthews did not make that point....

Chris Matthews doesn't want to make that point, otherwise it would put him in a very unattractive position.
He was right about one thing: This country is pretty much at the same place it was just prior to the misnamed Civil War. The country is too polarized now, and getting moreso, such that any reconciliation short of one side unconditionally surrendering is probably not possible.
It is going to get interesting.
Abortion is truimphed by the liberal media, and the politicians, yet they are shocked by Christianity that seeks to protect the unborn and value life at all stages. They are so shocked by this that they are willing to strip the Stupak (sp?) amendment from the final health care bill.
The Christian faith continues to get mocked, yet liberals can't come to grips with islamic terrorism that is wreaking havoc around the world.
The Stupak Amendment is a big, fat, giant, stinking RED HERRING!
The Obamacare bill IS an attack on human life. It IS the threat to our freedom. In fact, it is merely a PART of the NEW CONSTITUTION of a Soviet States of America.
I wish all my fellow Catholics and fellow pro-lifers would quit wasting energy, money, time, and words discussing the stupid Stupak Amendment.
And it will be deleted from the bill the moment the fight is over!
AAAAauuuugngh!!!!
“Chris Matthews, who is a practicing Catholic, because he has failed to defend the fundamental human right to life”
Chris Matthews is NOT a *practicing* Catholic if he does not defend the fundamental human right to life!!!!
A person CANNOT be committed to the God of the Old and New Testaments and be pro-abortion or anti-life. A person can SAY he/she is committed to the God of the Old and New Testaments without truly being committed. A person can say “anything” but that does not make that person truly committed to what he/she says. R.I.N.O.s for instance. Or someone trying to get re-elected who has been liberal suddenly waking up and saying that he/she is now newly converted to conservative values.
Muzlems wrote in their Koran that it was okay to lie if it promoted their cause of jihad and annihilation. So a Muzlem would be able to lie about being pro-life when indeed he/she was not.
On the other hand, as early as Genesis 25:21,22 the Bible speaks of the unborn in the womb as "child" not as tissue, fetus, etc. So to be pro-life is to be pro-child. To be anti-abortion is to be anti-child abuse.
