I once read somewhere that even public guillotine wasn’t a deterent. I sorta found that hard to believe.

Then again, there were probably a fair number of innocents who went to the guillotine in revolutionary France.

I’ve got to believe it’s hard to convince yourself that your fellow gang member went defiantly to his death when you see him getting jiggy at the end of a rope.
