I was at Fort Hood thirty years ago (191st Combat Intelligence Company, 312th Military Intelligence Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division) and he’s right, it never rated five stars. Being MI, I knew all the MP, CID, MPI and related folks, at both divisions, III Corps and other units. The “alleged shooter” Muslim major would’ve looked liked a Swiss cheese if he’d tried that sh!t back in the day...
Well he pretty much ended up that way, once the police, the only armed people around, arrived, the MPs showed up later, although not much. And regular infantry troops, from the photos, in full battle rattle, somewhat latter yet. (They had to go to their unit arms room to get their weapons)
Are you saying that in those days, soldiers, went about their daily business armed? Once armed folks, in this case two civilian DoD police officers, showed up, he went down, possibly with a severed spine. (And hopefully a colosotomy bag, but they haven't said much about his internals). But, as is generally the case, those "officially armed" individuals were not at the point where they were needed. So it was an unarmed victim zone. Just like schools and many shopping malls.
