I read an October 28, 2009 article by JB Williams over at Canada Free Press titled Tangible Tea Party Tactics in which Williams argues that a primary tactic should be to take over the GOP. Williams frames these tactics as tangible and at first glance, he would seem to be correct and perhaps even plausible. But, is that really the point of the Tea Party Movement? Is it really a movement that seeks to simply replace the current crop of liberal democrats in the Congress with a conservative group of republicans?
While I laud the idea and the passion behind it, Im afraid this will fall well short of the wholesale change that is really needed in Washington DC and by change, I mean real change.
In President Clintons first campaign, James Carville coined a famous phrase that defined the Clinton Campaign its the economy stupid! For the Tea Party Movement, our opposition to republican or democrat candidates should be summed up in another simple phrase its the big federal government and two party system stupid! In my view, the battle between Dede Scozzafava and newcomer Doug Hoffman in NY-23 was really a proxy war between the conservative/Tea Party movement and status quo big federal government two party system. With Scozzafava knocked out the NRCC desperately tried to associate itself with Hoffman only to kick him to the curb when he lost now thats the kind of principle I can rally around.
The two-party system has failed miserably as sadly, both parties support the status quo BIG GOVERNMENT and therein lies the problem.
The fundamental question is whether this is what the Founders desired?

I’d be satisfied with reinstating the constitution as the supreme law of the land.
There is meaningful 8th grade word that is often used to describe a sexual act.... In other words, the GOP can go pound sand.
There is only ONE party that has a chance at running government through concepts of limited, Constitutional means and that's the Republicans. Government grows. Always has---since Washington's first term, and throughout Jefferson's terms---until now. The only hope is to have a party in power that enables the private sector to grow FASTER, and thus reduce the RELATIVE power of government over our lives.
Retaking America is....
It would be relatively easy, if everyone involved in the T Party movement would find out who their Precinct Committeeman and Precinct Committeewoman are -—
And then ran against them, if they were RINO types, it would make a huge difference!
In NY 23, if Conservatives had done this, ahead of time, we would have REPUBLICAN Conservative, in that seat, right now!
We have a two party system. There is nothing on the horizon to change that. The fact is if we want to elect fiscal conservative, small government, small tax representatives they are going to be Republicans because darn few Democrats answer that description and even fewer vote that way.
Not that easy. In New York there is no provision for a primary when a Congressperson leaves office. It’s only by appointment.

i am the last one in the country to say what the protesters are trying to do to the GOP. In my opinion, what the protesters are trying to tell the politicians is that we will not put up with the way things are going on the national and local levels. Our currency is being debased, our borders are not regulated, we are taxed at an exorbitant rate and we receive little for our money, our culture is being debased, our religion is discriminated against, the entire hiearchy is not functioning. We are transferring our debts to our children and grandchildren. Nationally we are living beyond our means. We are transferring our jobs offshore for a variety of reasons. And the environmental anarchists have gotten control and they are irrational. Significant change is required, and no one seems ready to make them.
For my dollar, the 2 parties have been an abysmal failure as the size reach and scope of government continues to grow by both the D's and R's.
Disclaimer: I didn’t read the article - but in response to the headline: YES.
And, the appointment is made by -— WHO?
And, HOW does that person, who makes appointments, rise to power?
Control the PRECINCTS and you control the PARTY!
Ditto.
LOL I didn’t read the article either.
I didn’t need to. The answer remains the same.
I don’t think most tea partiers had a goal...
They were angry and fed up with everything Obama was doing.
In the process of getting involved - there was discovery of how the two parties work a little too close together.
And those two parties are unable to take care of our
Country. So We The People will elect new and improved
individuals that will abide by our Constitution.
So I guess you could say it’s a goal NOW!!!
Correct.
Retaking the OP(formerly the GOP) should not be the goal. I’ve been to several tea party rallies. All of them were attended by people who are disgusted by both parties because neither have abided by the Constitution.
