I don’t understand the point of voting on this amendment, which I think would have to be pulled out of the final bill to get liberal votes. It won’t fly politically next year to say they voted against abortion funding before they voted for it. It’s really hard to follow all these political manipulations in Washington. If the bill loses, that’s great, and if it passes then we have to wrap if around the democrats’ necks in the 2010 campaign and use it to help us recapture the House.
Pelosi is letting this amendment on the floor to allow RATS who claim to be “pro-life” a chance to vote for it. It is not likely to pass. But if it does, it will be removed in conference.
This allows RATS in pro-life districts to go back and say they voted against federal dollars for abortions, even though they will vote for it in the final bill. That’s how Pelosi made “the deal” to get blue dog votes.
Well, let the blue dogs know this. The campaign commercial writes itself. You voted against federal funding for abortions, and then you voted FOR it. Putting that in a thirty second advertisement will be easy!
