Even worse: It was a presidential transition event.
Daniel Kaniewski, the institutes deputy director, confirms that Hasan attended task force meetings as an audience member, and stresses that he was not a member of the task force. All of our events are open to the public, Kaniewski says, and when someone RSVPs we put their name in the [report] so everyone knows who was in the room. He says institute staffers recall Hasan attending at least one task force event, and that he RSVPd for several. We do recall him speaking at one of our events as an audience member, he says, but none of us recall what he actually said. Generally, our events are attended by people in the homeland security community, and Hasan had a very legitimate reason to be there.
Like Rob Port says, this isnt an issue with The One, who couldnt have known, but an issue with the militarys procedures for dealing with troubled soldiers. Ed asked the million-dollar question earlier today but Ann Althouse takes it a step further:

Ping.
LOL! Hasan is going to enjoy the Jack Ruby treatment very shortly...
Remember all the talk about that August 2001 Briefing and the AQ determined to strike in uS. I wonder how much the media will let everyone know that that the FBI and others knew about this guy 6 months ago.
What did Obama know and when did he know it?
It’s a good thing he’s done all that outreach to Muslims.
“and Hasan had a very legitimate reason to be there.”
No Homeland Security conference should be without a token jihadi.
The question will be...did Hasan shoot himself or did someone else pull the trigger...oh, poor Hasan...
You have to wonder if Dr Hasan was one of the white coats in the audience for Barry’s Rose Garden health care stunt.
Hasan seems like a natural fit.
Actually, CAIR did “condemn” the killings.
But then there was a local Muslim woman interviewed on our local TV tonight who said she feared for her children now - and that they had worked so hard to escape this stereotyping since 911 and now this - again.
I wanted to say - Ma’am - nobody is going to harm your children. Christians (the majority in this country) normally don’t attack innocent children.
I wanted to say - why don’t you investigate leaving your “religion” in which women are viewed as property or worse.
I wanted to say - oh, but then, your closest male relative would be obligated to kill you....so nevermind.
Sounds like she just hates it when innocent people die because it is so inconvenient for HER to have impertinent westerners looking at her ‘funny’. Yeah...I guess I can see that being shot to death for NOT being muslim is not nearly as bad as having people give you a second glance because you ARE a muslim. /sarcasm off
He was always such a good boy until they started picking on him. Badda boom!
Exactly. Sigh.
You mentioned that CAIR condemned the killings so I searched to find their press release because CAIR typically avoids such statements unless they can use it to distance themselves from the assailant (i.e., ‘he wasn’t really a muslim’ or ‘Islam is a religion of peace so...) Sure enough -CAIR’s statement tries to imply that their religion condemns such activity even though Islam advocates the killing of non-believers. Here’s CAIR’s statement:
“We condemn this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law. No religious or political ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence. The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured.”
This webpage has a selection of different American Islamic organizations and their press releases - of which CAIR was one. http://www.ask.com/bar?q=cair+condemns+hasan&page=1&qsrc=19&dm=all&ab=4&title=American+Muslims+condemn+Maj.+Nidal+Malik+Hasan%27s+Ft.+Hood+shooting+%26amp%3B&u=http%3A%2F%2Famericanmuslimjournal.typepad.com%2Fan_american_muslim_journa%2F2009%2F11%2Famerican-muslims-condemn-ft-hood-shootings-grieve-with-survivors-and-families.html&sg=7utgUyK1DESXaV3s0%2Bv4qs7KwbFivtjkUe%2BcZkCxJ3k%3D&tsp=1257564666727
Thanks for that confirmation.
Cue up the crickets.
Now, after a year, when its apparent none of this is going to happen, he snaps and loses it. In other words, maybe the Bamster's the one responsible for dashing this guy's hopes, causing him to commit this atrocity.
“A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor, he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is lesss to be feared. The traitor is the plague.” - Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman Orator - 1-6 - 43 BC.
