“Cleric says he was confidant to Hasan
In Yemen, al-Aulaqi tells of e-mail exchanges, says he did not instigate rampage”

By Sudarsan Raghavan
Washington Post Foreign Service
Monday, November 16, 2009

SANAA, YEMEN —

SNIPPET: “The cleric said he thought he played a role in transforming Hasan into a devout Muslim eight years ago, when Hasan listened to his lectures at the Dar al-Hijra mosque in Northern Virginia. Aulaqi said that Hasan “trusted” him and that the two developed an e-mail correspondence over the past year.

The portrait of the alleged Fort Hood shooter offered by Aulaqi...”

SNIPPET: “Aulaqi declined to be interviewed by an American journalist with The Washington Post. But he provided an account of his relationship with Hasan — which consisted of a correspondence of a dozen or so e-mails — to Abdulelah Hider Shaea, a Yemeni journalist and terrorism expert with close ties to Aulaqi whom The Post contacted to conduct the interview. The Post reimbursed Shaea’s travel expenses but did not pay him.”

SNIPPET: “Aulaqi said Hasan’s alleged shooting spree was allowed under Islam because it was a form of jihad.”

“Revolution Kids - Education Time With Farfour: Episode 1 Iraq & Fort Hood For Toodlers & Americans”

Video Description - Quote:
IslamicRevolutionTV
November 16, 2009

Revolution Muslims presents the first of many in our new series for kids, ‘Revolution Kids’ and educational program with the well known Farfour. In this first episode Farfour explains to kids the reality behind some minor details of Iraq and the recent events of Fort Hood.

Even though this program is for kids, we have noticed many Americans lack the basic understanding to grasp most of what we say when we speak on an intellectual platform. So this program can also be for those Americans who have issues understanding our usual material that we put out.

“Having Spent the Morning Laughing at Islamotard from NY, We Now Turn Our Attention to Asking you to Refrain from Kicking His *ss!”

SNIPPET: “UPDATE: Step away from the office for a few hours and the world changes!

I’ve received several emails about this ABC story on Nidal Hasan’s young protege, Duane Reasoner Jr. I plan to have an independent post up about his online activities in the next hour or so but here’s a key bit of information that I think a lot people are going to overlook. My comments are in brackets:

On August 1, 2009, in response to a video that was posted on YouTube by user IslamicRevolution TV [That would be Joey Cohen’s channel, as shown in the above video], “ooklepookle” [Duane Reasoner’s YouTube handle] posted the comment, “Ya Abdullah do you have any vids on martyrdom operations or the ruling on them.” The user [Cohen] answered, “No I don’t but look around online on the Jihadi blogs.”

So, the convert Hasan took under his wings “knew” [in the internet sense of the word] Cohen. It kind of makes you wonder if Hasan himself was aware of Cohen’s work at Revoloution Muslim and to what extent did the propaganda he and others produced influence Hasan’s decision to murder his fellow soldiers?

UPDATE: Reasoner also subscribes to Cohen’s personal “Revolution Muslim” channel [see subscriptions here] and to YouTube account the boys at Revolution Muslims run for exiled Shiekh Abdullah al-Faisal [see subscriptions here].

I think it is fair to say Reasoner traveled in the same online circles as Cohen. It would therefore not be shocking to learn that so did Hasan.

UPDATE: Clearest evidence”

“Major Hasan Dined with ‘Jihad Hobbyist’
Friend of Accused Shooter Called Himself “Extremist,” Watched Al-Qaeda Videos”
By MARK SCHONE, JOSEPH RHEE, MARY-ROSE ABRAHAM, and ANNA SCHECTER
Nov. 17, 2009

SNIPPET: “Ever since he told a British reporter that he felt “no pity” for the victims of the Fort Hood massacre, Duane Reasoner Jr., an 18-year-old Muslim convert who frequently dined with accused shooter Major Nidal Malik Hasan and attended the same mosque, has ducked the media. His parents ordered ABC News off their property over the weekend and on Monday, Reasoner again dodged ABC — this time by using a pass to drive onto the Fort Hood Army base, home of the soldiers for whom he said he felt no pity.”

SNIPPET: “But while Reasoner may not be making himself available in person, his presence on the Web is unmistakable. During the past two years, Reasoner has shown a marked interest in jihadi Web content and videos of figures associated with al Qaeda, including Osama Bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri and Anwar al Awlaki, the radical Yemeni-American cleric and al-Qaeda recruiter who exchanged e-mails with Major Hasan and told the Washington Post he considered himself Hasan’s confidant.

According to terrorism expert Jarret Brachman, Reasoner appears to be a classic example of a “jihad hobbyist,” one of a group of young, online obsessives who radicalize themselves by ingesting hardcore jihadist Web content, from YouTube videos to discussion forums.”

SNIPPET: “For Western youth who are attracted to jihadism, said Brachman, the Internet is a way to work out the contradictions between the culture in which they were raised and the demands of religious fundamentalism. “The only way they can reconcile that is through posting and externalizing the process.” One jihadi who started by working out his opinions and his reasons for conversion in public postings was Adam Gadahn, an American convert who is now a media advisor to al-Qaeda.”

SNIPPET: “In March of 2007, Reasoner created a YouTube account under the name “ooklepookle.” He has used the handle on other accounts as well, but they can always be traced back to Duane Reasoner Jr. or another name he has used, Duane Edwards.

On his YouTube account, Reasoner chose as favorites 14 different videos by Anwar al-Awlaki, the imam described by a former top CIA official to ABC News as an operational al-Qaeda recruiter. Reasoner also chose videos featuring Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban, Omar Abdur Rahman – the so-called “blind sheikh” now in prison in connection with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing — and Adam Gadahn.

In December 2008, Reasoner created a profile on Stickam.com. Under personal tags, Reasoner wrote “extremist, fundamentalist, mujhadeen, Muslim.” He posted a picture of the U.S. Capitol in ruins, as well as a picture of a Muslim warrior on horseback and a rendering of the “Sword of Tawheed.”

Tawheed, said Brachman, means the oneness or unity of God. He told ABCNews.com, “It’s a very general concept within Islam, but al-Qaeda and jihadist groups make it their core. It’s the basis on which they reject democracy and everything that is not in line with their ideology.”

On his MySpace account, created in March 2008, Reasoner called himself “Salah ad-Din,” after the famous Muslim Sultan who won back Jerusalem from the Crusaders and is often known as Saladin in the West. Reasoner also referred to himself as “Salah ad-Din” on Facebook. According to Brachman, references to Saladin are a jihadist staple. On an unknown date, Reasoner created a photobucket.com account. Among the photos on that account is a composite shot of Osama Bin Laden’s head rearing above the White House, which is surrounded by flames and armed men in Arab dress. The picture is captioned “Osama caliphate.” Another picture shows the White House with an Islamic flag above it and the caption “Nation under Islamic Law.”

Reasoner’s Frequents Many Online Communities

On another unknown date Reasoner became a subscriber to the YouTube channel of a YouTube user named Sahab929 who posted videos of al-Qaeda leaders Osama Bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. “Sahab” is the name of the media company that produces al-Qaeda’s videos and, said Brachman, might be adopted as a user name by a fan or supporter of jihad.”

SNIPPET: “On August 1, 2009, in response to a video that was posted on YouTube by user IslamicRevolution TV, “ooklepookle” posted the comment, “Ya Abdullah do you have any vids on martyrdom operations or the ruling on them.” The user answered, “No I don’t but look around online on the Jihadi blogs.””

SNIPPET: “In the months leading up to the Fort Hood shooting, Reasoner and Hasan ate dinner together often at the Golden Corral restaurant, apparently after prayer services at the Islamic Community Center of Greater Killeen. It is not known what they discussed.”

“Proof that Fort Hood Shooting was Muslim Terrorism”
by Hillel Fendel

SNIPPET: “(IsraelNN.com) While the U.S. debate continues as to whether Maj. Nidal Hassan’s murder of 13 soldiers in Texas this month was a terrorist attack, researcher Barry Rubin says the murderer himself provided the affirmative answer.”

SNIPPET: “Rubin, director of the Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center and editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal, has analyzed the slide show Hassan presented, concluding that it clearly explained his religious Muslim motives for the attack. “Yet that still isn’t enough for too many people - including the president of the United States - to understand that the murderous assault at Fort Hood was a Jihad attack,” Rubin laments.

Hassan had been writing e-mails to a radical cleric in Yemen who advocated killing soldiers and who called the American war on terror a “war against Muslims.” In addition, he yelled “Allahu Akbar” as he began shooting the unarmed soldiers.

Despite this, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has stated, “We object to, and do not believe, that anti-Muslim sentiment should emanate from this ... This was an individual who does not, obviously, represent the Muslim faith.” In addition, Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey, Jr. said, “I’m concerned that this increased speculation could cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers ... Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.””

“Hasan Friend Was Jihad Enthusiast, Linked to NY City Radical Muslim (Hasan also Linked?)[UPDATE: Blotter gets it wrong and so do we?}”

SNIPPET: “This post was premised on the idea that The Blotter correctly identifies that YouTube account with Hasan’s friend Duane Reasoner. That account does belong to a Muslim, but one thing that seems off is that several videos which appear to show “ooklepookle” rambling semi-incoherently show someone that seems much older than 18 years old. He may live with his parents, but I doubt very much that he’s 18.

Also, we have audio of “Duane Reasoner, Jr.” here. The voice does not match the voice of “ooklepookle”.

I’m not going pull the entire post yet, but there’s something wrong with the Blotter’s facts which have seriously screwed up our research. Keep that in mind as you read on. Let me know where the Blotter got it wrong. Is it just the YouTube “ooklepookle” that isn’t Duane, or is it all of their links?

Blotter is usually so good with their info, so this is kind of a let down. Especially since I may have to offer a scumbag like Cohen an apology!!

That, and the fact that I just spent the last three hours of my life on this.

Seriously, I could use some help figuring out what went wrong here. Are there two “ooklepookles” and the Blotter, and therefore we, just assumed the two users with the same nickname were the same guy?

PS - Oh, and the Blotter article has a lot of quotes from Jarret. He didn’t even know they published it. He was just used as an expert and didn’t have any knowledge of the link they were making between Duane and “ooklepookle”.”

“Lawmakers Seek to Award Casualty Benefits to Fort Hood Victims”
by FOXNews.com

SNIPPET: “A Texas lawmaker is calling for the victims of the Fort Hood massacre to be legally recognized as combatant casualties, a distinction that could intensify a debate over whether the incident should be deemed a terrorist attack.

Republican Rep. John Carter, who represents the Fort Hood area, plans to introduce the legislation Tuesday that would grant the 13 Army and civilian officers killed and 29 wounded the same legal status as combatant casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The status would allow military personnel to receive the Purple Heart and civilians to receive the civilian equivalent award, the Secretary of Defense Medal of Freedom. The status would also provide the maximum life insurance benefit available, among other benefits, to the beneficiaries of all the military officers who were killed in the attack.

“They were basically taken out early in the combat,” he said. “They should have a Purple Heart.”

At a news conference announcing the legislation, Carter said he views the shooting as a “terrorist attack on American soil.””

“Obama gets delay of Fort Hood probe”
By S.A. Miller

SNIPPET: “The Obama administration on Tuesday had the president’s National Security Council take control of congressional briefings on the Fort Hood killings and asked Democratic leaders to delay a probe, as top Republicans said intelligence shortcomings blamed for failing to prevent the 9/11 attacks are re-emerging.

Rep. Silvestre Reyes, chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said that the NSC had taken over the briefings “due to the high visibility of the issues surrounding the tragic event at Fort Hood,” and that Democratic leaders agreed to postpone any congressional action on the shootings.

“This is a somewhat complicated case,” the Texas Democrat said of the Nov. 6 rampage, attributed to Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, that left 13 dead and 29 wounded on the country’s largest Army post.”

SNIPPET: “But Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the ranking Republican on the intelligence committee, said the country cannot afford to wait to find out if failures in the intelligence community and the Pentagon are allowing other potential attackers to fester within the military.”

As salaamo alaykum,
Everyone has heard by now of the shootings that took place in Fort Hood, Texas. How should Muslims view this event? Is what many of the Muslim organizations in the US saying correct in that this is murder? Was this in fact as some Muslims have stated: “A treacherous attack on those soldiers who Protect our Country”?

“Dar Al-Hijrah Official’s Deception on Awlaki”

IPT News
November 18, 2009

SNIPPET: “When a former imam from his mosque praised Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan as a “hero,” Dar al-Hijrah outreach director Imam Johari Abdul Malik took to the airwaves to criticize the remarks and cast them as surprising:

“Let’s be clear when Anwar Al Awlaki was at Dar Al-Hijrah, he was articulating the same message that I articulate today in Dar Al-Hijrah, a very open, a very engaging, a very community wise and contemporary understanding of the faith within the framework of its traditionalism.”

But a look at Awlaki’s statements and connections during his time at the northern Virginia mosque shows that, at best, Malik’s characterization was misinformed as to the facts. While at Dar Al-Hijrah, a mosque with a history of leadership tied to terrorists, Awlaki made statements that endorsed terrorism and defended the 9/11 hijackers.”

JB EDITORIAL COMMENT: “moak” to be clear, I’m not trying to “scare people up” by listing your locations. I’m making the point that you are openly supporting the shootings of Americans by MAJ Nidal Hasan from within the United States. In my opinion, you can be upset with US foreign policy all you want. However, the moment you openly support the killing of Americans, we have a problem.”

SNIPPET: “Point is, Ansarnet jihobbyists, I’m not trying to come “get you” as some of you think nor am I trying to scare people about you. I’m simply pointing out the fact that you exist and believe what you do.

If any of you would like to engage in a more reasonable discussion about what it is you actually get out of posting pro-Al-Qaida and pro-Nidal Hasan messages on Ansarnet, I’d be delighted to offer my blog as a platform for such a dialog. Please contact me through the blog”

Apparently, my posting raised the ire of several Ansarnet participants. First, let me show you how they reacted.”
