Honduran lawmakers put off vote on Zelaya's return

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Honduran lawmakers on Tuesday put off a vote on whether to restore ousted President Manuel Zelaya and asked the Supreme Court for its view, bucking outside pressure to quickly end a four-month political crisis.

Their inaction leaves the de facto government of Roberto Micheletti in place and risks losing international support for a Nov. 29 presidential election, along with hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid to the poor coffee- and textile-producing nation.

A board of 13 top lawmakers met and decided not to call a special session of Congress, currently in recess, until they receive non-binding opinions from the Supreme Court and the attorney general.

No timeline was established for a vote, throwing fresh uncertainty over the implementation of a U.S.-brokered deal signed last week to end the worst political upheaval in two decades in Central America.

Apparently the Hondurans haven't been brought up to date on "The Chicago Way". They're not supposed to even read the agreement, much less seeks relevant legal opinions and debate it. They're just meant to enact it immediately and not worry about the legality or consequences later.

Honduras never intended to let the communist back into office. They purposely had the agreement written up so that Bozo would think they had caved. It takes not only the legislature to allow it, but the Supreme Court also. Neither one will allow the a**hat back into office. As for "international support" for their election, why would they care? They will hold on until the end of the month, vote in a legal President and continue on. Another big defeat for the communist loving Bozo the WH clown.

Also, the former President of Honduran Supreme Court, Vilma Morales, has basically told OAS Secretary General, José Insulza, to butt out. A press release of her letter to “Insulta” is available.

Good for her!

I thought this would happen. If they continue to play their cards this well, they can hold out until the election. Or they could hold out long enough to give Mel ONE DAY, which would be equally amusing.

Its more important to campaign for re-election and obey your constitution than to bow down to the bully from the North. Good for them.

Ha Ha.!!

The “agreement” was that they would get an opinion from the Supreme Court, and have another vote in Congress.

The Supreme Court previously ruled against Zeyala, and the congress previously voted to throw him out.

So it’s quite possible we’ll end up with the same outcome again. Probably they’ll vote to NOT expell him from the country this time, since they had no real authority to kick him out.

That's just what I was thinking. With friends like 0ba-Mao and Chavez, the Hildebeast and Ortega, who needs enemies? Besides, the aid we were giving them isn't "hundreds of millions" it was only $150 million. Not enough to sell out the whole country forever to Marxist slavery.

Heh heh heh. They should invite Hillary down to stand on the platform with Mad Mel for that ceremony.

look at what Reuters says: "Their inaction leaves the de facto government of Roberto Micheletti in place and risks losing international support for a Nov. 29 presidential election, along with hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid to the poor coffee- and textile-producing nation.", When Shannon said that no matter what the Congress decided, the US would accept the elections.
