You are the one who seems to have an issue figuring it out. Are you in love with a party or do want principles? I mean, you wanted a left wing so-called Republican to win in the 23rd just so you could dance around and “wooo hooo” about how a Dem was beaten in the race?
Even though the Repub is more liberal than the Dem who won?
How would that be a win for anyone EXCEPT liberals?
I’m not in love with a party. But the two party system is an important factor in the political stability of the United States, unlike European countries where there are multiple parties in constantly shifting alliances.
Also, as I said, a third party coming from the Right can only help the Democrats. That’s simply a fact. Think Perot.
In fact, it is sheer lunacy to start a third party when the Democrats are hard at work alienating the political “middle.” If we split the opposition to what the Democrats are doing, the Democrats still win.
I think the only real chance we have of taking back our country is to stay within the Republican party and push it hard to the right, on issues where the majority of Americans, including the middle, agree with us already — like spending, taxation, and freedom.
Maybe this whole debacle will put the fear of God into the Republican elite. Maybe it won’t. They can spin it as the majority rejecting the “extremists” on the right.
Actually, I think there were good arguments for what Palin did, and for what Newt did. I think this is one of those instances in which people can have a good faith disagreement and still be “conservative.”
Sarah took a gamble and lost. Newt took a gamble and lost, too.
