An early voting report from Virginia's 1st Congressional District, epicenter for today's expected GOP tsunami in the Old Dominion.
I reside in York County, not far from Fort Eustis and the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center. The district is heavily Republican; John McCain got more than 60% of the vote here last year.
Polls open in Virginia at 6 a.m. I arrived at my voting place (a local elementary school) at 6:45. The parking lot was 80% full at that hour, and more cars were arriving by the minute. The level activity seemed comparable to what I saw during the most recent presidential election, although I voted later in the day in 2008.
Outside the precinct, the GOP had two pollworkers passing our sample Republican ballots. Demand was heavy; by comparison, the Democrats had just one representative handing out their sample ballots. With the exception of a few African-American voters, there were virtally no takers.
Inside the polling place, there were 20 people ahead of me in line. However, the ballot is short (governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and one race for the House of Delegates), so the line moved quickly. I was out the door at 6:50 a.m. and by that time, almost 200 people had voted at this particular precinct.
Outside the school, signs for the Republican team (Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli) outnumbered those for the Democratic candidates by at least an 8-1 margin. However, this is a solidly Republican district, so you'd expect to see that sort of advantage for the GOP.
For all FReepers in VA: you know your mission for today. Get out and vote, and put the Old Dominion back in the GOP column. And while you're at it, say a prayer for Chris Christie and Doug Hoffman.
VOTE
Is that you Newt?
I just finished putting what I hope is a nail in the coffin of Corzine's political future.
ACORN’s voter fraud will get Corzine re-elected...and it’s just the beginning of what we’ll see in 2010 & 2012
I did hear Sean ask both of them if they had people out watching for ACORN and any voter fraud and they both said yes.
I believe it was Chris Christie that said he had 300 volunteer lawyers ready and waiting. I think it says a lot when 300 lawyers are willing to volunteer their time. It’s also very sad that it’s become necessary to have staff ready in case of voter fraud. Sad reflection on the state of affairs in this country.
Voted absentee in Chesapeake late last week. Last year (also absentee voting) the parking lot was jammed and the line waiting to vote stretched well outside the registrar’s door, and more minorities than I would have believed for Chesapeake. This year - in and out in 10 minutes. Campaign signs down here (McDonnell is from Virginia Beach, just nextdoor) run about 10-1 in favor of McD. Haven’t seen any Deeds stickers on cars with Hopey/Changey stickers, either.
Democrats don't get out of bed until about 2:00 pm. Republicans have to get up to go to work.
I don't mean to sound like a downer, but democrats aren't known for being early risers.
I hope what you saw was a picture of the entire day. I can't help but believe the American voters are smart enough to do something to stop the madness coming out of Washington.
McCain...Republican?
If napscoordinator is, I am too.
The only shame in the NJ Governor's race is that they couldn't all lose.
Hoping for wins today in CA10, NY23, NJ & VA. Only way that happens is if every conservative and like minded Democrats and Independents get out to vote the conservatives in. Regardless of media comments or Democrat spin, three or four wins today for the good guys goes a long way to killing Obamacare and rendering Obama one of the earliest lame ducks ever!!!! Folks, GET OUT & Vote Conservative!!!!
Nothing here but town councilmen. I'll go vote with my husband after he gets out of work.
Every election, no matter how small, matters.
If you lived in NJ your opinion would matter.
You need to be on the lookout for Democrat fraud. It will happen.
I’m at the Chester VA working at the United Methodist church polling place .it is pretty clear that the Democrat vote is not showing up an the sentiment was best expressed by a voter who said “I’m voting for anyone but the Democrats”.

You’re on a national website in which folks from all over this country share their conservative opinions.
