Sir Elton John has been forced to cancel a string of concerts after contracting E.coli and an aggressive bout of influenza.

The 62-year-old had already pulled out of a series of concerts in Dublin, London, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield citing ill-health.

But gigs in the U.S. cities of Seattle, Washington and and Portland, Oregon were yesterday shelved after the singer was admitted to hospital.

Yesterday, a spokesman for Sir Elton was keen to play down reports of his condition, saying: 'He is recovering from a case of serious influenza with minor complications. We are confident he will be back on stage in the near future.'

But a source close to Sir Elton said: 'The feeling is Elton will be out of action for four weeks."

E. Coli won't kill him. He'll die of botulism.

Yeah, botulism. You know, "bad meat in the can."

If you are going to eat “meat” it must be thoroughly cooked before hand...and after hand. Undercooked food is the number one cause of coliform bacteria exposure in humans, number two would be....number two.

> A statement on Sir Elton’s website said he was being treated for E.coli, a bacterial infection, and the flu, which he contracted at the same time.

> It is understood that the singer has undergone a series of blood tests, X-rays and scans to find out why his illness has proved so debilitating.

E.coli can be a very serious infection and it can kill a person stone dead under certain conditions. As the name implies, E.coli is normally found in the colon, where it is usually harmless.

Elton’s partner David Furnish spent most of yesterday at his bedside, telling reporters as he left, “He’s OK, he’s fine.”

The concert I saw with he and Billy Joel was one of the best I have ever seen. I only hope that his lifestyle choice does not bring an end to his career although I am a realist in the belief that someday it probably will.

Aw heck, probably like most people do - from produce or bagged salads. Wasn’t there an outbreak a few years back from bagged greens?

> E.coli - gay lifestyle choice?

Probably not. Most people infected by E.coli catch it via contaminated food. Hamburger is an ideal carrier because it has a comparatively large surface area.
