Deciding whether someone is a RINO based on their stance on one or two important issues is stupid. Look at their overall record. A bunch of freepers here use the little abortion/illegal alien litmus test on Peter King and claim he's a great guy because he's solid on those two issues. However, looking at his CAREER record you can see he's a total traitor to conservatives and far more than liberal than John McCain. He's been wrong side of major issues at least a dozen times. For example...

Clinton impeachment - King was one of only five RINOs who voted against impeaching Bill Clinton. He was by far the most active, going on all the news networks and talk shows to defend Clinton.

2000 presidential campaign - King was one of the earliest and strongest McCain backers, and continued to stand by McCain even after McCain insulted Christian conservatives and stabbed activists in the back.

2008 presidential campaign - Apparently deciding McCain wasn't liberal enough, King was one of the biggest and most outspoken supporters of liberal Republican Rudy Giuliani, actively campaigning for him and trashing conservative presidential candidates throughout the primary. 2008 veep selection - King was one the major adovocates urging McCain to pick Lieberman for Vice President.

2009 Congressional race -- King, along with Newt Gingrich, was one of the staunchest defenders of the Scozzafava nomination and attacked Hoffman supporters.

Pelosi's minimum wage scam - King strongly supported it

Cash for Clunkers - also strongly supported by King

CAFE standards - See above

Guns - King is a major proponent of ALL forms of gun control, and lead the fight for the "assault weapons" ban. He gets D and F ratings from the NRA and the GOA on a regular basis.

SCHIP - King supported this Democract scam.

big government pork/earmarks - King is known for making threats and resorting to blackmail to bring home bacon for his consituents.

Charlie Rangle scandal - King was one of only six Republicans to break ranks with a Republican attempt to have Charles Rangel removed as Chairman of the House Ways and Means committee

Terrorism - King is the most outspoken apologists for the IRA terrorists and was instrumental in securing a visa for Gerry Adams, the leader of Sein Fein (the socialist party that is the political wing of the IRA) to enter the USA. Conservative values - King was rated one of the Top 10 House RINOs by Human Events, based on his consistantly dismal American Conservative Union ratings and heavy support for Democrat legislation.

So does the fact he's right on abortion and immigration excuse him loudly supporting the Democrats on everything else?

We’re not going to unseat Hatch. We’d need a nuclear bomb to get him out. ME is not going to elect conservatives to the U.S. senate. Graham and McCain should be the first targets, and Graham just got re-elected. That leaves McCain. Concentrate on unseating him and some House RINOs.

You are absolutely correct! Peter King is no friend of the Conservative cause, this I completely agree with.

I guess what I'm trying to convey is that for using major issues as an initial test, althought not 100% accurate the immigration score is ths single best indicator of whether or not someone would be considered a RINO. For me, in order, there are 3 major issues that would disqualify my vote for a candidate unless they are acceptable on ALL THREE. They are:

1. Abortion
2. Second Amendment
3. Immigration

These 3 are non-negotiables. If you're bad on any one, you're a RINO.

Bottom line, you have absolutely no disagreement from me. I'm just one who likes to SIMPLIFY. A good score on immigration only gets a Republican into the "under consideration" column. Since the immigration test eliminates "nearly" ALL of the chaff, identifying the remaining RINO losers becomes much easier.
