Former Bush State Department official Liz Cheney diplomatically slammed Barack Obama today for imposing on grieving military families by bringing the White House press corps and photographers with him to Dover Air Force Base last night to receive the bodies of 15 soldiers and 3 DEA agents killed in Afghanistan this week.
Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit reported Cheney's remarks made on John Gibson's Fox radio show today. Here is a corrected version of the partial transcript posted at Gateway Pundit.
I don't know why he went to Dover. I mean I think that clearly it is very important for our commander in chief whenever he can, in whatever way possible to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, our fallen miltary folks.
But I think, you know what President Bush used to do is to do it without the cameras. And I dont understand sort of showing up with the White House Press Pool with photographers and asking family members if you can take pictures. I just, thats really hard for me to get my head around. I think its an honorable and important thing for us to pay tribute. Theres no greater sacrifice people make to the nation. But...it was a surprising way for the president to choose to do it.
I would also point out the best way to pay tribute to those who sacrifice is to win the war.
17 of the 18 families of the fallen denied Obama his photo op at Dover.
ABC News reports that 14 of the families were at Dover last night and met in private with Obama.
obama is dangerously self-centered and narcissistic. If he had even a shred of class he'd have gone to Dover AFB privately, met with the families, thanked them for their sacrifice, paid his respects to the fallen, expressed regret at the necessity of such sacrifices, and left quietly.
His using the loss of people under his command for his own personal and political power gains is disgusting and reprehensible.
I suppose we shouldn't be surprised though, obama has already held more press conferences and photo-ops in 10 months than former President Bush did in 4 years.

I absolutely refuse to question the motivation of the US Commander in Chief -- Republican or Democrat, Reagan or Obama -- when he honors men and women who have died in service to our country.
Simply put, I wish people like Liz Cheney would just STFU.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
Is this the first time Obama has been at Dover to pay his respects? How many handwritten notes of condolence he has written?
The man has no class, no sense of decorum. No couth. He is trash in a suit.
Michelle needs to whack him upside the head with that damned bondage boob belt she wears.
“This is a shameful photo-op. These Heroes should never be used as props.”
The Leftists such as Obama, his advisors, the lot of them actually don’t consider anything but self serving opportunity. To them there is no grief but their own.
Obama has no compassion for anyone. He has no class and should not have gone. The military nor the people do not want him.
The whole thing was disturbing to me.
At first glance, I was glad to see him honoring our fallen soldiers, but then I quickly realized he was using the entire scene as a dammed photo-op.
I’m sure he was sincere, but his narcissism dominated, and cameras just HAD to be there to show HIM.... It’s always about HIM.
Liz Cheney is just what we need...an outspoken conservative that has the best interests of our country in her heart.
BO's little photo op was just that, another chance for him to be in front of the camera.
Simply put....I think you're on the wrong forum to be putting down Liz Cheney!
I absolutely refuse to question the motivation of the US Commander in Chief — Republican or Democrat, Reagan or Obama — when he honors men and women who have died in service to our country.
BULL...if he would have made some serious decisions concerning troop levels maybe that trip would not have been necessary. He needed to be called out... that was a pure BS photo op...
You are full of it, Newbie troll. That was the #1 story in America at the time, and Reagan did it in broad daylight, and every network carried it. This was Obama doing it at midnight, as a planned photo op, with Michelle at Yankee Stadium earlier that same night with a wounded vet. Planned, cynical, calculated.
You teach the people what not to do, by doing it.
re Reagan in 1983, we were not at war, and what happened
in Beirut was a terrorist attack.
There was not an issue of the need for more troops nor was Reagan playing games with what went on.
If you don’t know what Obama is pulling, you are out of touch.
5 of those coffins were 4 Marines based here in San Diego and 1 was an Army fellow, a native here and his family here spoke from here this afternoon.
None gave permission to have Obama seen with their sons.
No one questioned Reagan’s motives because you didn’t have to do that with President Reagan. You knew he loved his country, loved and respected those families and had the utmost respect for the sacrifice of those dead. Being there was not his idea of a ‘photo op’.
Educate yourself about President Reagan AND President Obama and you’ll figure the rest out.
It’s really simple.

As I know you are aware, W and Cheney would frequently meet...in private...with the families of those who had been killed in action. And that includes one not well reported personal meeting with Cindy Sheehan and the families of 26 other fallen heroes.
It was something he did on a regular basis, but not one press account, because W didn’t seek out the press.
It's pretty obvious it was a photo op about HIM plus a prelude to his announcement about Halfghanistan. . "I really Care, so I'm only sending half of the troops in harm's way." With Obama, even more than Clinton, "It's all Politics, all the time."
