"What makes them think that scientists can see the future? Frankenstein anyone?"

Who is "them"?

The American team used stem cells taken from embryos in the first days of life but hope to repeat the process with slivers of skin.

The originals, being embryonic were most likely cancerous. All that is known is that they weren't viable and the researchers are looking for alternatives.

These were embryonic stem cells.

Our tax dollars at work.

What source? They all are. Name one instance where embryonic cells have not become cancerous. One success, please prove me wrong...

I quoted them in post #42. They are looking for skin cells. You seem to be more arguing than responding.

I should say our elites. By and large they know nothing of science, or scientists. They don’;t know how it is crafted, or that scientists are simply people who are good at their job but are less capable of predicting the remote future of their field than many science fiction writers.

Embryonic stem cell research is a bit like atomic fusion. Hard to make a “bottle “that will contain it.

I would love to see humans having the capability to regrow lost limbs.

Brave New World! Some people want to grow other things. Why not grow a second head. One can sleep, while the other continues working; 24/7 you'll get twice as much done.

Men and women like Adam and Eve trump Frankenstein’s science any day.

"I’d opt for being a human/machine hybrid."

This is a joke, right? What? You want to live forever? Think that through before you answer.

Some of us weren’t as blessed as you obviously were and needed medical help to achieve parenthood...God provided us with wonderful doctors and procedures that resulted in my 3 beautiful children I was told I would never have. :*)

One should not make foolish assumptions when one does not have all the knowledge necessary to make a valid assumption.
Adoption is wonderful, but it is not for everybody in this world, unfortunately. “Obsessed”? Yes. Would you walk up to a just married couple who are being teased about starting a family, and when they say, we’re going to start right away, we want a houseful of kids!! Would you rudely tell them they are ‘obsessed’ with having their own biological child/ren, they should obviously be looking to adopt and stop being so SELFISH!?!?!?!

If your answer is no, then why in God’s name would you attack couples who are going through the hell of infertility?!?

This particular story is about embryonic stem cell research, which I totally oppose for religious reasons. But not ALL fertility treatment involves such things. Do some research and find out facts before condemning 1/6th of the earth’s population as being selfish and ‘obsessive’ for wanting biological children. >:-(

I didn’t say I wanted to live forever. I just said I could see the advantage of mechanical parts being wedded to a human being. I don’t think that means anyone would live forever.

All humans start out as females, google it!
Don’t know the answer to your question, but the probability is there.

Wow. Could you be any more bigoted toward people who are not as fortunate as you apparently were in the baby-making department?!?

Talk about disgusting. >:-(

It should be self-correcting over a very short period of time, but given that the modern role of government seems to be to negate all forms of selective pressure, I can see widespread social changes which persist long enough to harm the genetic fitness of the species. The best policy is always no policy - something the self-styled masters of the universe (those enlightened few who are drawn to turn their brilliant musings into reality via social engineering) will forever fail to understand. Let them have their experiment, but the government should not legislatively foist what is inherent genetic depravity upon the rest of us (for example, by inventing new civil rights based on some concept of sexual/reproductive discrimination).
