Outside of this kind of district, a conservative 3rd party would guarantee the Democrats 70+ seats in the Senate and probably 350 seats in the house. Even if they got 35% of the vote - which would be historic, it would be an incredible gift to Democrats everywhere. Put another way, any Republican who didn't enjoy a margin of victory of plus 15%, would probably be defeated.
