“What do his religious convictions have to do with anything?

Religion is not some altered form of thought. It is nothing but beliefs, so what a person believes is extremely important to understanding who they are, where they are coming from, and if their ideas can be believed.

Beck is dead-on 99% of the time and I appreciate his efforts despite his Mormon beliefs. The Mormon thing does call into question his ability to rationally think.

So you believe, and you're certainly welcome to your opinion. When Beck begins to throw out ideas because his religion tells him to, then I will worry about it.

Until then, his religion should have nothing to do with anything.

Besides, who are WE to say what he believes is NOT the truth? Seems a bit ignorant to think otherwise, IMHO.

That is subjective and really, none of our business.

I beg to partially disagree with you. Faith in the Bible is described as both a content of what and who we believe (like where Jude 3 says to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints) AND it's a living, trusting relationship with a Living Son of God who died for us (John 17:3).

If religion "is nothing but beliefs," then Jesus was wrong when He said the following: "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me... (John 5:39)

Jesus says true beliefs -- the Written Word -- testify to Him, the Living Word. According to the Bible, lots of folks with true beliefs will go to hell. Even Satan knows true beliefs to a greater degree than we do -- but like the people Jesus talked about in Matthew 7, doing God's will has to move beyond belief status:

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Matthew 7:21-23)
