It has nothing to do with what he is doing which in most cases is totally correct. Why bring religion into this? We live in a country where the right to worship the religion you want to believe in is your right. And not the dictation of some human King.
Most conservatives derive from a Christian background, especially since our founders were Christian.
We all know how wise our founders were in the establishment of this nation.
Another aspect of that wonder is that the principles on which we are founded do not conflict with any real religion....except where that religion is bastardized by man’s ego (like so many Islamists today).
You obviously look down on Mormons because you think they are wrong in their beliefs....but isn’t that what all religions believe? Every religion believes it follows the true teachings of God and follows in His principles.
We do not know who is right or wrong until we travel to the gates of heaven and St Peter greets us with the pickup truck and says “Y’all get in the back, we’re headin’ up to the Big House.”
I couldn’t refuse the Jeff Foxworthy quote.
It’s not your concern nor responsibility, take care of your own spiritual health.
And a man religion is his religion and it's NOT American to attack that.
From your post I’m going to guess you are of a protestant/evangelical faith. I may be wrong. But for the moment let’s say I am correct. Now you could also make the same argument about Catholics. “How could any critical thinking person be Catholic?” And yet there are something like a billion Catholics in the world and some of them — probably the same percentage of their members as are found in any other religion or in the general population — are quite intelligent and critical thinking. A billion Catholics, 300 million (actually I’m just guessing at the number here) protestants, 10+ million Mormons, 15-20 million Jews, even 10+ million Jehovah Witnesses — they can’t all be stupid.
But honestly I’ve had the same question as you about some very intelligent people I’ve met. How can someone so smart believe in such and such. :)
If we show any hesitation in accepting Morons into the ranks of conservatives, we have lost our way. Beware of claims there needs to be a litmus test of some kind.
What unites conservatives is the idea that government should be limited and consensual, not that it endorses a religious heritage.
What the hell difference does his religious affiliation have to do with anything? He’s help to uncover the absolute rotting of the U.S. and it’s based on fact. The stench is reaching Heaven. Truth is what matters.
It is more curious to me that you have chosen today to focus upon Glenn Beck and Mormonism, as if this has only now occurred to you as a valid question, when it is evident that the affirmative action fraud-in-chief crapping in the Ovala Office bathroom has operatives pressing this point in the media, trying to divert attention from the facts Glenn is citing, and trying to divide opposition to the marxists ‘changing’ America. ... Stop drooling over the possibility of starting a religious skirmish at FR, it isn’t becoming for a real freeper.
Who are you to suggest that one faith is more right than another? I am Christian (Catholic). I don't pass judgment on anyone's faith. I certainly reserve the right to criticize the action that an individual's faith might lead them to take as it relates to the innocents of others.
Do you have any idea how crazy non-believers think we are for celebrating the death of our God by eating his body and drinking his blood? Broaden your horizons a little. It's really not that big of deal.
Beck repeats facts on his show and he worships in a believe system. There is a difference between facts and belief in their face value. Also his good looking wife is got him in the church.
I’ve met a number of intelligent Mormons. I don’t agree with the Mormon religion, or esteem Mormon literature, but I welcome conservative Mormons to the political party.
One could ask how could odumbo be in the White House and be/is/was a muslim in a Christian nation
Who cares what the poster thinks. Trying to marginalize Beck. Not going to work with many of us. Just not thinking people !
Glenn is brilliant and has a lot of guts for doing what he is doing exposing a lot of the evil doers in Washington. He is pointing out the evil in both parties and is not by any means one sided.
“How Can Glenn Beck Be Right on So Much and Yet Still Believe the book of Mormon? (serious question)”
No...STUPID question. And totally irrelevant to the good works Beck does. As long as he upholds the constitution and this nation, he can worship at the alter of the polka dot zombies for all I care.
Scythian,
I’m glad you brough this up. I understand your intention is not to slam Glenn for being Mormon, but to deal with the thought that someone who has so brilliantly dug into economics and politics could believe something that is false according to your belief system. I actually have had the same thoughts. If he can believe something I believe is deeply flawed, can I trust his research on other topics?
I think his Mormonism actually makes me look harder at what he says on political and economic issues - and that’s a good thing! I love listening to him and have since 2001, but I also take time to think about his ideas. Use your doubt that way.
That’s sort of like asking, “What does she see in him?” In matters of the heart, and in matters of the spirit, an intellectual approach is the wrong approach. Far as I’m concerned, Beck’s religion is between him and God, and only God is fit to judge the connection.
"I must ever believe that religion substantially good which produces an honest life, and we have been authorized by One whom you and I equally respect, to judge of the tree by its fruit. Our particular principles of religion are a subject of accountability to our God alone. I inquire after no man's, and trouble none with mine; nor is it given to us in this life ti know whether your or mine, our friends or our foes, are exactly the right." - September 26, 1814, Thomas Jefferson to Miles King
I would say it's none of my business if I didn't take seriously so much of what he says and that his opinions about worldly matters resonate with me. He comes across as sincere about that.
I guess the loser liberals are desperate enough to try anything.
I still watch Beck.
