==Once you disconnect from reality in one realm, you are free to disconnect in others as it fits your paradigm. It goes without saying that religion often plays a part in this type of thinking...
Look Who’s Irrational Now
“’What Americans Really Believe,’ a comprehensive new study released by Baylor University yesterday, shows that traditional Christian religion greatly decreases belief in everything from the efficacy of palm readers to the usefulness of astrology. It also shows that the irreligious and the members of more liberal Protestant denominations, far from being resistant to superstition, tend to be much more likely to believe in the paranormal and in pseudoscience than evangelical Christians.”

And now you've given me a reading recommedation. you see, we can get along. This is certainly something that interests me. Of course, please forgive me if I have difficulty with the book if they don't note that to some, belief in palm readers and astrology is no different than a belief in an invisible sky god. And since the study comes from a Baptist University... I'm skeptical.
Random aside: Scientists at Baylor are currently working on understanding the unique genetic components of the rare syndrome that a close family member has. Only a Baylor team, a small team at NIH, and a team in France are doing this rather personally important research, so my hat is off to them.
