The anonymous poster of this commentary clearly understands what's coming. His last statements should ring true for us all:

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me..

I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it.

This individual is doing what we all must do. His doing what I do as well: he's standing up and proclaiming the truth. He's acquired the courage - courage he always had, really - to stand as a warrior in the field of ideas. He hasn't quite come to understand that circumstance may soon demand something rather more substantial in the way of warrior-ship. But I think he'll 'get it'.

BTW, you'll find my responses to this post as E. Dorrity in that Amazon.com thread.

"How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe , and across the world. He did it with a compliant media - did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and .... . .. change. And the people surely got what they voted for."

If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It’s all there in the history books. “

Yep. History?! We don’t need no stinkin’ History!! /sarc

Any ideas who this could be? Helen Thomas? Cal Thomas? Brit Hume? David Limbaugh? Who?

I believe this was written by a historian by the name of Dr. David Kaiser. Brilliant piece. Thank you for posting it.

Looks like someone copied and pasted it to Amazon. Good. I think I may copy and paste it myself, especially now that I know who wrote it and can apply the proper credit.

I haven't the slightest.

It looks like post #8 may have a clue.

Do not forget that Germany was the most educated, the most cultured country in Europe .

Well, if you're actually a student of history, then you also know that never in its history did Germany actually have an effective representative form of government. Coalition after coalition failed during the Weimer years. The Nazis and Communists battled in the streets for a decade. In July of the year Hitler came to power dozens of people were murdered by political thugs from both sides -- in the city of Berlin alone.

This rhetoric is over-the-top and the comparison misses the mark. Please keep your powder dry for the serious work ahead. 0bama is a danger to the Republic, but he is not Hitler. Odious comparisons do not help the cause.

Sorry, scratch that. David Kaiser claims on his blog that he DIDN’T write this piece titled “History Unfolding.”

This is what I found on snopes.com:

Looks like that theory’s been debunked. Anyway, that would be too easy to track down. Someone else is behind this. I wonder if it is a liberal.....

And no doubt that the silent majority of that era simply assumed that when the new leader over-reached, that people would rise up and make him go away... magically... through a ballot box.

I agree that we must avoid odious comparisons. They can only be counterproductive, and comparisons to Hitler break down at a number of points. But the broader comparison of a highly developed country, in the midst of stress, falling into the hands of thugs is apt.

“When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to.”

Yet he was voted out as soon as the war ended.

Great article BTW.

>"Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections."

What with the 2nd amendment, the door to door krystalnacht scenario is looking doubtful. Yet disarm they must.

Plauge/pandemic/NBC attack to "concentrate/protect" the population into unarmed "camps/shelters". For our own "safety" of course.
