If it was to leave electoral politics then I applaud her. I wish more people would put family first like that.
However, if she runs for office in just a few years, it kind of destroys that rationale. Does she think if she ran for the top spot some how everyone would be nice to her and hers?
Personally, I don’t think she is running for higher office, at least not until all of her children are grown.
I think she is a great and inspiring Women who has gotten a raw deal. But right or wrong her prospects at National office are pretty much dead in the short term. Even Hillary didn’t have negatives like this when she was contemplating back in 2005 and 2006. You can’t win when 60% of Indies don’t like you and almost every Democrat loathes you. Being wildly popular in only your own shrinking party is not the path to victory.
Hillary had 52% unfavorable as of April 2007 and she was lapping the dem field by 30 pts. Ahead in most general heats, too. She blew it in IA but still would have won if there wasn’t a guy out there who had 90%+ support among the key minority group in the dem party. Plus all that stuff with FL and MI not counting and the wierd calendar with all those caucuses. If OH/TX/PA were after Super Tuesday instead of large black states like MD, VA, LA, DC where he could rack up all these lopsided wins, she’d have won easily.
There is no Obama in the GOP field who commands 90%+ support among a large group like that.
If Palin is still at 50% unfavorable in Apr, 2011, she’s in trouble. Now, it doesn’t matter as much.
Lets see what happens. If what happens 3 yrs out from an election matters we’d all have been posting about Bill Frist or George Allen as the nominee last year. Remember Rudy’s 70+ favorables in the summer of 2007?
