CDC ^

Posted on 10/12/2009 7:11:44 AM PDT by Scythian

I follow this map every year, it usually doesn't even start up until Novemeber, they started it early this year, and it's worse than I've ever seen it, the peak is usually Jan/Feb for flu ...

See map HERE

Nothing devastating about that map. No one under about 60 has immunity to swine flu (unless you’re like my entire family, who are now immune) and it’s easily spread. Probably 50% of the US population will get swine flu and we’ll have a couple thousand deaths since it’s so mild.

You want a devastating map, try looking one up for traffic fatalities.

I am sick with the flu today. Not fun, but thankfully it is not H1n1.

My doctor says he has not seen a single H1N1 patient that was older than 33.

So how does that compare to flu maps of previous years, taking into account weather conditions (we are a little cooler this year, much to Al Gore’s disappointment)?

It’s the fricking flu. Not like it’s the plaque or something.

Comes every year and goes every year.

Wash your hands, stay away from infected people and stay home if you get sick so you don’t add to the problem, but it is THE FLU, for crying out loud.

What next? Tracking hang nails?

Yes, I know some people die from it. Usually the already sick or infirm. Take precautions but don’t get wrought about it.

But you know, if there is a pandemic, then the need for universal healthcare becomes obvious, right?

It's no more likely that the health gurus in the government would "cook the books" to support their pet legislation than it would be for the press to overwhelmingly support one Presidential candidate over another.

Oh, wait.....

key observation - this map IS for influenza. it does not break out H1N1A SOI (AKA SWINE FLU).

This is only a measure of spread/ virulence AS REPORTED. It does NOT give you any indication of mortality, or relative mortality or mortality by demo/ phenotype, nor does it offer trends or mortality trends.

in other words ... it is not very useful by itself.

BTW, regarding your questions to professionals: google “CDC guidance to clinicians H1N1 flu” and scroll down a bit on that page for guidance to clinicians for specific patient populations— such oncology, OB etc.

I also told my daughter that besure to really think this through before she has the kids get the vaccine as well.

And this is where the anti-vaccine BS starts to make me angry. I don't really care if someone uses fear and misinformation as an excuse not to get a flu shot. But when they start trying to convince other people not to get a shot for the same incorrect reasons, they put that person at risk. Especially the kids, who are in schools where viruses tend to spread quickly. And because somebody read some incorrect crap on the net and told somebody else that the flu shot is "dangerous," those kids don't get the shot and have to risk suffering the flu or worse.

“More people die from the regular flu every year than the pig flu.”

Not an accurate statistic. The pig flu is attacking young healthy people. The regular flu kills a lot of old sick people. Granted, the young people who are dying usually have an underlying issue but you cannot compare the two flu’s.

The people who have fallen ill are staying ill for two weeks or more.

When people get a free pass to extend their sick time, they often consider some of those home projects that haven't been completed, and that could be completed in a day or two if they only had the time to do so. Just sayin'...

I got my flu shot last week. That’s right, people. I looked death square in the eye and laughed at it.

HAHAHAHAHAHA(cough).

Thanks for the tip. Now, to risk it or not....I think I’ll risk it. Having cancer just sorta took all the “scared” I have in me, I’m not scared of the flu! We don’t need no steeenking vaccines! :)

That may well be true for some, but I have family members and one co-worker who are VERY ill and are taking weeks to recover.
