JD Hayworth was a sitting congressman who lost his seat to a dem. How will he persuade 50% plus 1 to send him to DC as a senator?

He lost his seat to a Dem who was trying to be more to the right of him. In addition, his district was changed and there were some personal issues involving his wife and campaign contributions.
As someone who has a house in Scottsdale, I have no doubt that Hayworth could win the nomination and the election if he decided to run. AZ is still a red state. And with the Obamanation in the WH, 2010 should be a good year for the GOP.

The Dems were able to target JD and flood the polls with out-of-state voters from ASU.
They won’t be able to do that in a state-wide election, and they won’t be able to do that in the (closed) primary.
