It’s like if Ted Bundy’s parents were going on about how he had low self esteem or something. It’s retarded. She’s basically still thinking that in some way, he was a victim.

Nothing she writes in this excerpt indicates that she thinks he's a victim. When she says she's "haunted by the horror and anguish" her son caused, I see no reason not to believe her. She's the boy's mother - of course she's going to love her son no matter what horrors he committed, grieve over his death and his crimes, and do her best to understand why he did what he did.

It’s sad how so many people blame the parents, especially Mom, in cases like this. None of us know the situation and none of us is/was a perfect parent.
