Behind the Scenes: Picturing Fetal Remains

[There are no graphic images in the article proper. They are accessed through a slide show only.]

The photographs are graphic and detailed, showing the fingers or toes of aborted fetuses whose entire frames are no bigger than a cellphone. Since the mid-1990s, they have appeared all over the country — carried as posters by protesters, handed out with pamphlets or, in some cases, mounted like billboards on the sides of trucks.

Like many others, I often wondered about the source of these images. Who took the pictures? Where did the fetuses come from?

I had a chance to find some answers while reporting in late September on the death of James Pouillon, the anti-abortion protester who was shot and killed in Owosso, Mich. [See Saturday's presentation on the subject in The New York Times.]

I guess they aren’t real accepting of what God has for them. What a pity!

You're right. By not accepting God's plan, they've either knowingly (or unknowingly) succumbed to the devil's.

There's a bunch more comments, by the way, that have been released at the NYT article.

St. Michael the Archangel
Defend us in battle
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil
May God rebuke him we humbly pray
And do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host
By the power of God
Thrust into hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits
Who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls --Amen

Thanks for sending so many folks to the New York Times article to read and encouraging them to comment. There’s some wonderful commentary over there (some really aggravating stuff too, of course!).

I also am enjoying reading all the FReeper comments on this thread. Great positive stuff!

Goooo babies, beat the devil!

I posted and prayed that there will be some whose understanding of abortion will be changed after seeing those pictures and reading those comments.

The comments in support of “choice” are always the same, so I get discouraged that no ground is being made. That is why I pray, because I know that only the Holy Spirit can open the hearts and minds of people so firmly entrenched in the culture of death. We are only His instruments.

I pray also that America will once again deserve leaders who are faithful to God and work for the people, all people of this nation as I believe God intended when He blessed this nation with so much.

... But people are waking up.....approval for abortion is dropping so keep up the good fight and maybe one day we will see the end of it.

Yes, I think Monica Miller's enthusiastic (but tough!) vocation of documenting the aborted children has wonderfully carried over to the young people of America who protest in their own ways, and their fight especially (but along with the more mature pro-lifer as well) is what's going to put an end to Planned Parenthood's abortuaries [eventually, with the help of God].

No one with a conscience could see those images in person and not be unscathed.

You have to read the blogs on the webpage. The first few showed no remorse for the unborn children only pity for the women who had the abortions. They scorned this woman for her views. Pro-abortionists won't get it - they are blinded. It's the liberal way. One day they will see the millions of children they allowed to be slaughtered but then it will be too late for them.

“How did you know for sure that Malachi was not a miscarriage?”

Simple answer to that: If the fetus is pink or red, and especially if there’s a noticeable amount of blood, it was alive when the abortion was performed.

However, if the fetus is a brownish or greyish color, and especially if it appears emaciated, it died naturally in utero, probably days before the ‘abortion’ occurred. The color comes partially from the lack of oxygen and partially from the beginning stages of decomposition, and the emaciated appearance would come from the mother’s body beginning to re-absorb it. While some of these might be found along with the same remains as live abortions, and the procedures used are typically the same, the ‘abortions’ here aren’t really abortions at all, they’re simply miscarriages that for whatever reason the woman’s body didn’t expel naturally.

She's a combat veteran. Spiritual warfare, in her case. It is not with mere flesh and blood that she does battle, but "principalities and powers".

Ever met any combat veterans?

It leaves its mark on their souls, whether the combat is physical or spiritual.

Darn right I'm glad she's on our side.

November 4, 2008 -- nuff said.

As to my "abortion-on-demand-for-convenience is Not A Good Thing" moment? It came when I began seriously dating, in college -- the realisation and possibility that that could happen to my child one day. It hasn't, thank God, but there's still that spectre ...
