Because Mr. and Mrs. Zero owed an all out effort to Valerie Jarett and Axelrod, et al whose former firms had so much riding on ringing the Olympics to Chi Town. Locals say it was all about Daley.

Here it is in a nushell, thanks to Michelle Malkin:

And they say it was “for the kids” and “an economic benefit for America”. Bull.

More personal greed and politics as usual at the expense of the U.S. taxpayers. Anyone get a good estimate on how many millions this boondoggle cost us taxpayers?

How fitting since both the Olympics and hubris have their origin in ancient Greece.

Hubris (/hjuːbrɪs/) (ancient Greek ὕβρις) is a term used in modern English to indicate overweening pride, haughtiness, or arrogance, often resulting in fatal retribution or Nemesis. In ancient Greece, hubris referred to actions which, intentionally or not, shamed and humiliated the victim, and frequently the perpetrator as well. It was most evident in the public and private actions of the powerful and rich. The word was also used to describe actions of those who challenged the gods or their laws, especially in Greek tragedy, resulting in the protagonist's downfall.

Hubris, though not specifically defined, was a legal term and was considered a crime in classical Athens. It was also considered the greatest sin of the ancient Greek world.
