"1. Disconnect. There is little semblance between how one lives and how one envisions others should live. "
Or flying to Copenhagen at taxpayer expense to seal graft for Chicago cronies
while preaching about global warming and the need to tighten belts to others.
Frivolous waste of taxpayer money, not to mention the carbon footprint.

Ahh, what a mere million between friends, when we learned a new word: trillions. Government waste, but I repeat myself.

It's tough being an oppressed minority.
You have to keep trying to prove you deserve first class.
ALL the time...
Frivolous and meaningless expenditure mean something different to them.

VDH has forgotten more in his life than Obama ever learned. VDH’s knowledge of history and his ability to illustrate its relevance to the situation we find ourselves in today is unparalleled.
I would much rather read a Michael Ledeen when I want to know about the intracies of Iran, or a Thomas Sowell when I want a perspective on race, or a VDH when I want to see how the mistakes of the past are being repeated again today.
True knowledge is more than a 30 second sound bite on Fox News or CNN.

In the Ironies corner, add this:
Revolution. The revolution that the Obamunist wrecking crew are trying to achieve is not the one they're going to get. Same goes for 'change'.

There is a form of conspicuous consumption that is driven by a pathological need
for self-esteem. Someone who felt snubbed at Princeton might have that,
along with a pathological need to prove their importance.

The chief difference between the support for the new Obamism among those in the gated community (tastefully gated) and the barrio was the level of vehemence and near anger in which it was expressedfar greater the more upscale the neighborhood. This is so true. The rich want the middle classed taxed to the point where they can't "join the club"... Sick.

It’s a suit! An unflattering suit - too short, too tight, and a bad pattern - but a suit. And she’s wearing teal shoes with it ... how creative!
Michelle, if you’re only going to have a few pairs of shoes, you need a black pair, an off-white pair, and (for the truly extravagant) a navy blue pair.

3. Top and bottom. Obama is the embodiment of the new Democratic Party that appeals to the very poor and the upscale, the one reliant on federal largess, the other making enough money not to care all that much about the taxes necessary to fund it. On almost every issueenvironmentalism, social issues, larger governmentthere is a new alliance that simply downplays the ordeal of the larger middle class of all races and ethnicities, especially those who are self-employed and wedded to more traditional values. The hardware store owner, dentist, real estate salesperson, and farmer, are seen as the boss with capital to dispense to others, rather than the critical but harried entrepreneurs who get up each morning with no certainty of an income or benefits. The chief difference between the support for the new Obamism among those in the gated community (tastefully gated) and the barrio was the level of vehemence and near anger in which it was expressedfar greater the more upscale the neighborhood.I have long said that the base of the Republican Party is the middle class, which needs political muscle to protect it from the pincher movement of the limosine liberal and the "poor" (in quotes since, like Americans generally, their main nutritional problem is how to hold their weight down).
