Kaintucky was a border state. It provided troops to the Union and to the Confederacy.

Even if you don't know where those troops came from all you have to do is look at the election results ~ wherever John Bell won, that's definitely Union territory. Check out references to: Constitutional Union Party.

There were FOUR major parties running in 1860. The Republicans were considered the SECOND major party having established themselves as a power in 1856 elections.

The Democrats were split numerous ways.

Also southeast kentucky didn’t like the confederacy much after they were invaded and had they’re homes and farms looted and burnt by raiders. My family split over some of them raiding into the area, and weren’t welcome home after the war.
