The Scots are what motivated Hadrian to build a wall completely across Britain...
Scota was the Great Goddess ~ explaining something very strange ~ the early people who came from the Danube in the 8th century BC were fairly monotheistic ~ but it wasn't "God the Father", but "Goddess the Mother".
They were called Milesians after "Mil", the first man.
About the 7th and 8th century people from the North, sometimes described as Vikings but more properly Orkney Islanders, began moving into Alba. Almost at the same time people from Scotia (now Ireland) began moving into the same place.
The meeting of the two peoples was no more violent than usual, and brides were swapped, peace made, clans were built, prosperty ensued, and the Scots were created! Neither Viking nor Celt, this new breed of man began kicking the world in the ass and hasn't stopped.
Today most Scots live in America with large contingents in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and England.
This, BTW, is why most Scottish Lords and kings are descendants of King Frosti ~ and so are all the Scots anyway.
The Swedish national tradition begins with their camp on a large lake in Southern Sweden engaging in combat with King Frosti and defeating him but apparantly he simply retired to his Summer Home in the Sunny South and left all the ice and snow to the Swedes.
And they wore kilts because the sound of zippers scared the sheep as well...

The Romans also avoided Ireland altogether; that’s how the raiders grabbed St. Patrick (and there was no rescue attempts, either).
No, Hadrian built the wall to keep out the Picts, an aborignal people.
I believe it was actually the Picts that motivated the building of Hadrian’s Wall. The Picts were major badasses.
