Politics and Race: A Devolving, Depressing, and Debased Debate
Pajamas Media ^ | September 20 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 09/21/2009 11:41:03 AM PDT by AJKauf

I just read the charges of Bob Herbert, the New York Times columnist, who now swears racism fuels anger at the Obama new deal. He even cites the Kenney assassination as dire warning. But, wait—JFK was killed, as the Warren Report detailed, by a pro-Soviet, Fair Play for Cuba Marxist.

Bob Hebert himself not long ago alleged on television that a McCain ad was abjectly racist because it had two supposed phallic symbols in the background: those Freudian bogeymen, the leaning tower of Pisa and the Washington Monument.

The racists in the McCain campaign, Herbert swore, used subliminal imagery to scare us about purported black sexual prowess. But wait once more: Herbert crafted all this. The image was simply the Victory Column in Berlin. It was chosen as a backdrop to remind viewers of the pomposity of Obama himself using the icon (after being turned down for wanting the more presidential set of the Brandenburg Gate). Even grade school students can distinguish the Washington Monument—and most likely the leaning tower of Pisa as well. (By the way, given the hysterics of the New York Times in its Obamania and the lengths to which it has gone, and given its dire fiscal condition, and given the federal bail-outs under Obama, and given the spread of czardom, we know what will follow very soon….)...

The race bait no longer works.

I despise Obama because he’s a fake, stupid, and a liar.

Other than that, he’s a fine man.

“...the serious and once legitimate word “racist/racism” tragically has lost all currency (despite the continual presence of racists and racism). In political discourse, it means nothing other than a tactical move to obtain political or careerist advantage. (By the same token, “Nazi” means nothing now either. It too has devolved from a descriptive term of a nightmarish philosophy that engineered the murder of 6 million and started a war that led to 50 million dead to a debating tool to end debate entirely).”

Ain’t it the truth!!

Who would use the sagging tower of Pisa to denote threatening male virility anyway?

To characterize criticism of Obama’s policies as racist is a rather vile, evil and insidious manifestation of racism: It makes race more important than the debate over the merits of policy, it assumes that the President is inferior to any of his predecessors (since he requires special protection that they did not,) and it assumes that criticism is insincere based solely on the color of the critic’s skin.

Freepers have consistently opposed those who advocate socialism, and the socialist solutions and laws they propose. We have done so regardless of the race, religion or political affiliation of those we've opposed: Clinton, McCain (e.g., political censorship legislation, illegal immigrant amnesty,) Bush (e.g., Medicare prescripton drug coverage,) Obama, Kennedy, Snowe, Specter, Collins, whoever.

Given what we have seen on the connection between NEA grants and the marching orders given to grant recipients to promote and support the Obama agenda, the most chilling thing I can imagine is the federal government bailing out newspapers.

This is the damnedest thing! Liberals routinely use the Kennedy assassination as if it was an example of Right Wing violence.

All the hollering of racism by Dems due to any criticism of Obama reflects a number of things. It surely means the Dems have no legitimate argument to combat the criticism, and it makes the Dems look like the scoundrels they are. In that regard conservatives should be glad and sad. Glad that the Dems are once again making fools out of themselves for public display but sad that the other major party reflexively stoops to such abhorrent name-calling as their defense. It also means the Dems are not ready for a black president.

It bothers me that the word Nazi is used by idiots who wouldn’t know a Nazi from a Boy Scout. The people who have dummied down basic history throw these words around AS IF they know what they mean. It’s no fun being call a Nazi by a person who is him/herself probably closer to the Nazi mentality than even THEY know.

I blame the NEA
