Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is the preferred 2012 GOP presidential nominee among Christian conservatives, according to the results of a straw poll announced Saturday at an annual gathering of the religion (sic) right in Washington.
Prominent Republican leaders, including House Minority Leader John Boehner, took to the stage at the Value Voters Summit to blast President Obama's spending policies and announce the top 2012 presidential pick among conservative voters.
The summit's poll, which featured 9 presidential prospects, found that 28 percent of Christian conservatives said Huckabee would revive the Republican party and traditional conservative principles while 12.4 percent preferred former Massachustts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Other strong contenders included Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who won over 12.23 percent of conservative voters. Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence came out in in a virtual tie at 12.06 percent and 11.89 percent, respectively.

“If you do not want Huckabee for GOP POTUS, state facts why he would not be good at it.”
You have your cart before the horse. I did state my main reason for not wanting to see Huckabee in the race. I don’t think he stands a chance of winning, not the primaries and not the general. As for the rest of it, I’ll let you go first, since you are giving the orders. How do you think Huckabee is going to handle the illegal immigration problem, or the healthcare mess that will exist come 2012, or the devalued, defamed dollar that will exist then? How will he deal with 20 percent unemployment, an energy crisis, state controlled banks and industry, a greatly weakened military and a world that laughs at America? Imagine the world after Carter, only infinitely worse. In fact, make a list of conditions you think could exist in 2012, keeping in mind what has happened over the past eight months. Imagine the worst, and ask who you would want in the White House to deal with the problems. Go through the list. Tell me why you think Huckabee would be the best choice, and I’ll get back to you in another year or two, when I see what my other choices are going to be. Oh, let’s not forget, Republicans could win back Congress in 2010, and turn things around, like they did after Clinton’s disastrous first two years, and Obama could actually be electable come 2012, like Clinton was. Tell me why you think Huckabee would be the man to beat him. And for the record, I didn’t say Huckabee wouldn’t make a good president, though I have my doubts, and I didn’t say I wouldn’t vote for him, should he be my only choice. That’s more than I gave McCain before Palin entered the picture.
HuffPo would rather see The Huckster than Palin. There’s a shocker.
They said the same things about McQueeg.
True dat!

I smell a rat.... a BIG ONE....
I’m stuck to Palin for the duration.
To a large extent Huffpo took down Sarah in the first place. If she didn’t have it in her to fight back to protect her own governorship then how will she have the strength to protect her fight for the presidency, assuming she even wants it?
And if Sarah was so anti-RINO, why did she pair up with McCain in the first place? McCain is a pro-amnesty RINO and you probably voted for him.
So don’t dismiss Huckabee. He is shrewd and tenacious, articulate and capable of running rings around Obama in a debate.
Sorry, Christian socialism isn’t my thing. The Huckster’s a non-starter.
I’ll stick with Lady Palin, thanks.
Ugh, I loathe Huckabee. I’m not voting for anyone I don’t like ever again.
You’re the one who brought up God in the first place. If you’re going to bring Him up don’t be surprised when someone quotes a bible verse at you to prove you are wrong.
If you want the perfect politician you’ll never find it. If Sarah was the perfect conservative you’re looking for she never would have hooked up with RINO McCain to begin with. She would have called herself a conservative and not a “maverick”. It only caused her trouble and forced her out of the governorship of Alaska after she failed. So that’s two failures for her in less than a year.
If you can’t see that then you are blind and will vote foolishly the next time. Too many voters like you and Obama will be in office till 2016.
Actually, I didn't. Maybe you should figure out who you meant to respond to and berate them instead.
My apologies if that was the case; I’ve been conversing with several people on this subject.
However what I wrote previously still holds: too many Freepers are underestimating the political savvy of Mike Huckabee. He would run rings around Sarah during national debates. Her winking and “ah shucks, say it ain’t so” method of appealing to voters was a dud for her. He wouldn’t have messed up the Couric and Gibson interviews and that did terrible damage to her among thinking people which could not be healed. All the media would have to do next go around is to pull those old interviews out where Sarah looked like a deer in the headlights and she’d be a person of ridicule again. People will vote for who is familiar (Obama) even if he stinks.
Didn’t those interviews get sliced and diced edited?
Spoken graciously, as a true Christian should. I, on the other hand, am a clod, having a bit of fun. You are absolutely right. This nation needs to follow the example of Nineveh, and fall to its knees before God allows our destruction. God bless you.
