ORO VALLEY U.S. Sen. John McCain told a friendly crowd of about 800 Friday that the health-care plan touted by President Obama is ailing as a result of the swelling opposition at town hall events across the country.
Six months ago, the Republican said he was resigned to the fact that the Democrats in Congress had the numbers and momentum to push through a bill.
But that was before politicians started hearing from seething folks in their home districts.
"I would argue this is one of the most difficult times in the history of this country," McCain said, noting Americans are concerned not only about health care but also about the economy, the war in Afghanistan and the growing deficit.
Ticking off the billions that have been poured into the federal stimulus package and the bailouts of the banks and the automobile industry, he said the policies amount to an "unsustainable expenditure."
"Americans are deeply concerned and angry about what we have done to future generations of Americans. We have committed generational theft."
Calling the town-hall and tea-party protests "a peaceful revolution," McCain said, "I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this in my years of public service."

But...but...didn't you say we had nothing to fear in an Obama presidency as you took a dive?
Lord how I loathe this pos.
McCain and the GOP Establishment have the perfect scenario of a three-way race in next year’s primary.
Unless conservatives unite behind one candidate and figure it out between Deakin and Simcox, Juan McCain will continue to be in Washington for as long as he wants.
This is exceptionally sh*tty reporting. I would guess that people are more interested in what he said about Sarah Palin than anything else, but the reporter didn’t bother to tell us his response.
I’m done with you, John. I want you to shut up and go away as fast as you can.
Who is John McCain?
Jun 16th 2005
From The Economist print edition
HE IS every American liberal’s favourite Republican. He has a long history of championing liberal causes such as campaign-finance reform (with Russ Feingold) and immigration reform (with Teddy Kennedy). He recently derailed the attempt by Senate Republican leaders to junk the delaying filibuster technique for judicial appointments; and he is one of Congress’s leading worry-warts on global warming. A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll gave him higher favourability ratings among Democrats and independents (both 59%) than among members of his own party (56%).
The fawning adulation of many liberals for John McCain is mirrored by the foaming hatred of many conservatives. We don’t like McCain at all, says Stephen Moore, a veteran anti-tax conservative. He ought to not be allowed near sharp objects or legislation, adds Grover Norquist, another anti-tax crusader. The Conservative News Forum refers to him as Komrade McCain. And that is all mild stuff compared with what the religious right says about him.
Now that is a FACT!!!
I hope that this town-hall was “not representative of the community”. Otherwise, America will be saddled with this RINO for another six years.
“Unless conservatives unite behind one candidate ....” we have no chance! (MHO)
that said —— Senator McCain, fight for us! Fight to keep Congress out of our Health Care!
Please do not compromise. Please do not compromise with our Health Care.
“Six months ago, the Republican said he was resigned to the fact that the Democrats in Congress had the numbers and momentum to push through a bill.”
Of coarse McCain submits when there was a challenge.
I highly doubt he had 800 people there to listen to his middle-of-the-road give up attitude b.s.
Sick of this opportunist. What is wrong with AZ? He needs to go.
I can only hope!
If anyone still has a McCain-Palin bumper sticker on their vehicles, please remove the offending portion.
As long as the Republicans have OPEN PRIMARIES for the presidential race, we will have others choosing candidates like McCain for us.
I'm an atheist and you should hear what I have to say about him... I can't post it here... I like FreeRepublic...
I’m not the religious right, nor an atheist, and I agree with you AND them wholeheartedly. I like FreeRepublic too. And I can cuss in Yiddish.
McCain will win handily regardless who conservatives unite behind.
