FWIW, I share your enthusiasm. The events of 9/12 have given me a greater appreciation of what Glenn Beck describes as "We have them surrounded!" It's absolutely true. A large majority of the country is conservative or conservative leaning - something in the neighborhood of 65%, give or take. What has made a large chunk of these "soft" conservatives vote against their values or kept them away from the polls altogether? IMHO, the dinomedia has been the single greatest purveyor of this snake oil for decades and too may people actually believed it, or in many cases, wanted to believe it. The scales are slowly falling away...

We the people in the streets are having a blockbuster effect. They are scared to death. They never expected the last six weeks. DeMint of SC was instrumental as was Beck. I went to a town hall in Tampa to get the snowball rolling. It is a new day and the dynamic is changing as we watch.

Hot Damn! Finally. After 25 years of being called a kook I am feeling it was worth it. The sleeping giant is awakening. Hot Damn!

In A Treasury of American Political Humor there is a speech by Congressman Davey Crockett in which he gave it out that he had cheated a whiskey seller in order to get enough liquor to ply his constituents with to win election to Congress. He claimed that he afterward apologized to the vendor who, taking pride that he "slept with one eye open, and the other not more than half closed," replied that it did him good to be taken in on occasion to keep him on his toes.

You have to have a healthy respect for the ability of Big Journalism to con people by flattering them that whatever they (and sometimes, indeed, the journalists themselves) do not understand can't be important. And indeed, teaching "self esteem" in school is little else but flattery. And far from inspiring morale, flattery breeds only arrogance.

Big Journalism flatters those who go along with it, and derides those who do not. We have been learning that we have to follow the example of that liquor seller. But PT Barnum had a point . . .
