I share your enthusiasm. The events of 9/12 have given me a greater appreciation of what Glenn Beck describes as "We have them surrounded!" It's absolutely true. A large majority of the country is conservative or conservative leaning - something in the neighborhood of 65%, give or take. What has made a large chunk of these "soft" conservatives vote against their values or kept them away from the polls altogether? IMHO, the dinomedia has been the single greatest purveyor of this snake oil for decades and too may people actually believed it, or in many cases, wanted to believe it. The scales are slowly falling away...Hot Damn! Finally. After 25 years of being called a kook I am feeling it was worth it. The sleeping giant is awakening. Hot Damn!
In A Treasury of American Political Humor there is a speech by Congressman Davey Crockett in which he gave it out that he had cheated a whiskey seller in order to get enough liquor to ply his constituents with to win election to Congress. He claimed that he afterward apologized to the vendor who, taking pride that he "slept with one eye open, and the other not more than half closed," replied that it did him good to be taken in on occasion to keep him on his toes. You have to have a healthy respect for the ability of Big Journalism to con people by flattering them that whatever they (and sometimes, indeed, the journalists themselves) do not understand can't be important. And indeed, teaching "self esteem" in school is little else but flattery. And far from inspiring morale, flattery breeds only arrogance.
Big Journalism flatters those who go along with it, and derides those who do not. We have been learning that we have to follow the example of that liquor seller. But PT Barnum had a point . . .
It is not wisdom to make threats.
Amazing how 70,000 people take up so much space! Great photo.
“one million protesters could not get through to this guy!”
I was watching some old videos from the 1969 Vietnam war march with respects to crowd size. Someone made the comment that Nixon made a point of releasing photos of him watching a football game during the protests. However, the person also said how the protests stopped Nixon from threatening the use of Nukes in Vietnam.
I’m not so sure about the nuke thing, but I’m pretty sure that Nixon was swayed by the protesting later on, and I believed mentioned it in one of his books or perhaps on the tapes. Basically blaming the fall of Vietnam on the protestors.
Anyway - even though Obama may act like his head his in the sand on this - it isn’t. More importantly, just like Nixon, I’m sure he will be trying everything in his efforts to undermine the protestors. Except now he has thousands in the form of ACORN and the SEIU to help with the “dirty tricks” such as painting swastikas, or worse.
Heh, an excellent story and prescient points cIc! “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.” Still in all, one has to wonder if the story is maybe a frontier tale of sorts...
Thanks for that. I'm hoping it actually works but my nagging suspicion is that the acorn proles being thrown under the bus is theater and that the systemic corruption that infests acorn to its core will essentially go unchallenged. I hope I'm wrong and that justice will prevail against this evil anti American cabal. I think the best we can hope for, at least in the short term is that enough "swing" voters become aware of the acorn's chicanery and their connection not just to odinga, but to the Dims generally. Glenn Beck is doing yeoman's work at exposing the malfeasance and I pray for his safety.
Thanks for the kudos! Just judging from photos I’ve seen of previous gatherings, the 9/12 “mob” was far and away the largest crowd to have ever assembled there. My observation is that 1 million plus doesn’t seem unreasonable at all.
ACORN is a juicy target, but just one among many. The overall target is Big Government, the welfare state, the Democrat party. Keep up the pressure.
Thanks FGS! I’m not there. But hey, I’ve seen the DC dregs, and they’re waaaay too healthy and well-fed looking.
Nothing a little dose of universal health care couldn't fix. ;^)
Well we could do a history lesson like the first group dressed as revolutionary soldiers and the second as the Union soldiers...the republican party was born from the anti slavery movement don’t forget. Lots of stuff to pull from history to use. :)
one has to wonder if the story is maybe a frontier tale of sorts...
No need to wonder; Davey Crockett was talking to Congress (he was introducing himself as a new member), and Davey Crockett wouldn't lie! </sarcasm>.He was actually telling a humorous tall tale in his self-introductory speech.
I read something about the U.S. Park Service is telling people this was the biggest one in D.C... EVER!
I hope that’s true! Maybe folks are actually starting to catch on.
